Honda CB200 and the like

Re: Honda CB200 and the like

LOL that pic from Ohio is my bike! Well before I owned it. I bought it from a vintage racer in NH. His brother trucked it up from Florida to him at Mid- Ohio that year.
As far as the pipes go , I guess they were quite popular "in the day". I have seen alot of them on the little 200s. I believe that mine have had the mufflers cut off and an "open" muffler w/ drag pipe baffles installed. They are very loud!

I am looking for side cover gaskets for mine. It appears that they are discontinued here in the US , however they are still available in Europe. The problem stands that after freight and taxes and VAT and whatever else they would cost me a fortune!

That is a trip that that is your bike - two owners, removed? Did you check out the entire gallery from that mid-ohio visit?

    click on the pic

Isn't it possible to make your own gaskets?

And we shouldn't have to pay VAT here in North America (US, for sure). I know that all the BMW suppliers that do regular business with us, show the price both ways.

And here I thought this was going to be an easier bike to get parts for than the XV920RH (non-runner) that I narrowly avoided!

The seller has told me he'll take $450 for it. I think I will take a truck with me, and wave 4 hundreds at him as we go to leave, if it looks good. He says it runs good, even though it is missing things like a ign. switch, both hand levers (must be in neutral?), and of course the shift lever. Mostly easy stuff, but I will need gaskets to replace that shift-shaft.

I am happy to have found that link posted above, for salvage dealers in various states! I'm afraid I may end up with an entire second engine in order to get a shift-shaft, for it! But BikeBandit shows them available for $69...

I hope some of the salvage yards let you root through stuff.

But it appears to be in relatively good shape:

    Gasket kit from Europe http://www.cmsnl.com/products/06111-...t_06111354000/
is 31.50 Euros. That is $43 USD as I type this.

Oh...I see what you mean about their shipping costs!
Need to find someone in their neighborhood that could ship them to us at a reasonable cost...

Gosh I started this thread 2 years ago and it still lives. I mentioned it before but if you are into these "Tiddlers" check out this crazy-in-silly-sane race I do every year called The Lake Erie Loop: http://lakeerieloop.com/video.html they also have a yahoo group. 1 day 650 miles 200cc's or less. My best time is 10hr 27min on a cb200.

It's an endurance race all the way. If anyone were serious about it I'd be happy to work with you and head out there together. I've done it twice and it is a real hoot. Another bonus is that it is for a small and worthy charity. It helps kids with horific burns transition back into society through a camp where they meet other kids like themselves and get to forget their tramua for a time..... make me a little teary eyed thinking of it. But seriously if interested or if you need some parts I have a fair amount of stuff lying around now including a shift lever and an exhaust.

    Thanks Kev,

Not to worry - there is NO WAY I could forget about the Lake Erie race!

I might take you up on that shift lever, however. But I'm still going to need a shift-shaft...

Did you put rear-sets on your bike? It looks like rear-sets and low pipes are mutually exclusive...

BTW - this seems to be the closest thing to a "forum" on these bikes.
All the "Vintage Honda forums" I have looked at only get 1 or 2 hits per year!
    Any suggestions, there?

Thanks for getting back in the thread!

    Rob

Re: Honda CB200 and the like

I don't have any good pictures of it online, yet. I just took some the other night in the dark garage. I couldn't help myself.
But I have already changed [improved] it! I rec'd new levers, pivot hardware, and an adjuster for the clutch (missing).

The left side took a pretty hard hit. The tank will pop out easily, I am confident. And until it does, it's not too bad to look at.

The tool kit is there & complete! FWIW...
But a nice trip down memory lane!

I'm not sure where he got his, but this is where I will buy mine. They are very similar.

The universal sets are quite a bit cheaper than the specialty ones!
Of course, you do need to add a few bits from their Misc Parts dept., like rods and such, but those are all quite reasonable.

These are the ones I want!

I have a CB200 and a parts bike sitting in my basement that I am hoping to get running. My biggest issue are mufflers. The right muffler has a hole rusted through and the left has some rust but not rusted through yet. Anybody have mufflers that they are looking to get rid of? If not any suggestions on stock vs. aftermarket? Or whether mufflers from other CBs will fit. I am looking more towards reliability than performance. I don't want to get into rejetting and all of that.

If anybody wants to trade or needs anything let me know I have a lot of CB200 extras lying around.

I do have a set of mufflers sitting around. One is correct and the other came off of another bike. Looks nearly identical but not exactally correct. I don't know which one is correct but I will sell the set if you want to come see them. I'm in Westport, ma
