For sale is this 2006 KTM 950 Adventure S. I have a clean and clear Massachusetts title in hand. The bike has 57,000+ miles on it, and I have a full maintenance history on the bike. Currently the bike is disassembled down to the motor - airbox, carbs, tanks, plastic are all off the bike. Aesthetically, the bike is in fair to good condition. It has been ridden and enjoyed, and is not a showroom bike. However it was owned by someone who respects and understands these bikes and the maintenance they require. That being said this is a project bike for parts and repair only. It needs a significant amount of work.
The Good
- The previous owners were meticulous about maintenance. I have an 8 page binder of meticulous maintenance from mile 7,000 to mile 56,000. This is really important with these bikes.
- Brand new Bikemaster Gel battery installed in March 2021
- Brand new tires with less than 250 miles on them
Accessories and Mods
- Touratech aluminum skid plate
- SW-Motech crash bars
- Smoke black windscreen
- Heated grips with hi-low switch
- KTM 690 headlight
- Aftermarket rider pegs
- FMF exhaust with DB killer inserts
- Warp 9 Elite front rim
- Black rigid handguards
- Wire on-off switch for the fan.
Repairs Needed
- Steering bearings need to be replaced - there is a notch when bars are centered
- New OEM bearings, races, and seals will come with the bike
- Countershaft seal is leaking
- New OEM seal will come with the bike
- Needs new spark plugs
- New laser iridium plugs come with the bike.
- Needs an oil change
- New OEM filters and screens along with Motorex 10W-50 oil will come with the bike
- Crash bars don’t line up perfectly with the front mounting holes
- “Stud mod” needs to be done. I have all the parts for it.
Top End Repair
I noticed the bike smoking on startup one day before taking it for a ride. I also looked into the maintenance and it seemed like the spark plugs were needed replacing every 3000 miles or so. I decided to dig into the issue and it led me to looking at the back of the intake valves with my borescope. The rear cylinder intake valves are definitely wet with oil, and so is the rear spark plug. I suspect worn valve guides and seals. I have not completed a leak down test yet, but I will not be surprised if it confirms this condition. I also have a video of the borescope inspection which shows the oil deposits for review if anyone is interested. The valves do look fairly clean from carbon deposits which is a good sign. Looks like the previous owner was meticulous with keeping the air filter clean
In addition to this, the front cylinder base gasket is leaking oil down the front of the motor. So, it is of my opinion that the bike should have both heads come off, cleaned up and refreshed, and the piston rings will need to be replaced. Parts total about $600. The carbs should be cleaned as well while they are off the bike.
Asking $2800 in as is condition. As it sits now, it’s still able to be rolled up into the bed of a truck or on the back of a trailer and tied down with no problem. I will organize the parts into boxes with labels as well.

Bumping this because I have a new motor arriving next week. Would be willing to sell it with the new motor before I swap it in.
