My wife had a 2000 Subaru Legacy and we went and got steel rims and snows so that I could just swap em in the winter.
She got a new Outback with 17 inch rims and it doesn't look like the 16's will work
So, 16 inch rims (that fit a Legacy, not sure what other Subaru's they will fit) with 205/55/16 Nokian Hakkapelita Snows, Still good tread left. Will post pics. $200.
She has 225/55/17's on the Outback. I am correct to think the 16's with 205 sidewall are going to be too small?

205's verses 225 will be ok. How new is the outback? If the bolt pattern is the same (5x100 verses 5x114.3) then the only other thing you need to worry about is front brake caliper clearance. The newer calipers tend to sit a little proud and don't let the older style 16" rims sit flush.

PS. Do you care if I link to this post on the local subaru forum?
225/55r17 = 26.7"
205/55r16 = 24.9"
That's quite a bit of a difference.
If it were me, I'd keep the wheels (if they fit) and look for 205/65r16 (26.5") or 215/65r16 (27.0") snow tires. I prefer as much side wall as I can get in the winter.
If the new car is new and not just new to you, you'll either have to swap TPMS sensors between the 2 sets of wheels or live with the tire pressure light on all winter...unless Subaru allows to sets of sensors to be programmed into the car, in which case you'd buy a second set of sensors to go with the second set of wheels. Fuckin' Ford, Fuckin' Firestone, and Fuckin' politicians.![]()

Health nuts are going to feel stupid someday, lying in hospitals dying of nothing.
Do you ever come close to Manchester NH? I'm going to ask my wife about this, my Impreza did well in the snow on Wednesday, but I think it'll be more fun with snow tires![]()

Are they just steelies?
Should fit Impreza's and early Legacy's. Bolt pattern won't fit the STI (except 2004), but Brembo clearance may be an issue, as clearance with the newer set up on 2006+, I'm not sure though.
All that's just FYI... and mostly accurate. LOL.

Possibly interested for my wife's car, she has an '08 Legacy. Waiting for pictures to be posted.

If the bolt pattern is 5x100 like on a wrx, list them on vwvortex.com under wheels/tires classifieds > 5x100.
They will be gone in a day
A man of many names...Jay, Gennaro, Gerry, etc.
I have someone coming to pick them up. Will post pics if that falls through.
Plain steel rims with good snows.
