    WTB: Log Splitter

Keep tryin to buy one of these, will go new if I have to.

Gas powered or 3-point hitch is fine.

Needs to be one that can be use horizontal or vertical if it's a stand alone unit.

    20-ton or more.

Let me know what you got, I'll consider quite a few options.

hire someone, for what a good one will cost you you could hire someone to split all the wood you need every year for the next 15 years.

i see listings on craigs list for 20-30 per hr

Lookin to spend around a grand.

Also, hiring is alright, but I was planning to use this for me, my dad and my uncle.

Timberwolf's are nice, but $$$$$$$$$$. I'm doing about 3 cord a year, nothing too substantial.

as i recall a tw 1 (there slowest model) is just under 2k so you might be able to find a used one for around 1k

i must admit i used a tw1 for a small pile and didn't like it.
then again i'm using a tw2hd with the auto valve and a 4 way so i'm spoiled

whatever you do get one where the wedge is on the end of the splitter not on the cylinder.

three point is ok depending on the tractor, but why rack up hrs on your tractor just to split wood?

don't get one that flips down and don't split anything you cant pick up. when you flip it down the splitting is so slow it's not worth it imho.

There's a TON of places/manu's that're offering the (insert term here) same as cash, no interests, no down payment, blah-blah-blah...

I'd have no problems letting you use mine. I got the Cub Cadet 33 ton that a handful of people here told me not to get. 2" tongue, 12 second cycle. Can do a cord in about an hour, and that's stopping for a smoke here & there. If I stack as I split - by the wheel barrow load, it takes about 2 hours per cord. Also note that I got mine from a Cub Cadet dealer, not a box store. I've used it for about 12 cord over the last coupla years and who knows how much more my friends have used it for...

    Lemme know...

    Re: WTB: Log Splitter

I'd rather just buy one outright, but thanks for the offer.

It's something my family should have had years ago, just like the front end loader. I may stop in at the Lowe's in Amherst NH and talk to the manager about one of the Troy Built ones. For what I'm using it for, something like that will be just fine.

That Timberwolf TW-p1 looks sweet, but I can't find any used ones around here.

Yeah, when I was looking used TW's were hard to find and even harder to grab before someone else got 'em. Also when we were looking, we hadta contact the factory 'cuz their small dealer network (around us anyway) couldn't keep 'em in stock. The factory told us they didn't even know when they'd be getting the dealers resupplied. And as you said, they're a decent chunk of change too!

Fuck. I saw a YTD 27 ton on Craigs list Friday, I meant to put up a link for you. They were asking $600.
