    WTB: Motard Gear?

So, I'm thinkin I'll be in need of a more suitable lid for bombin around town, a hybrid dirt / street type lid perhaps? Who'se got some recommendations?

Do they make boots with spikes on them? What do the hooligans wear these days?

Arai makes one. I think Motomarket has them in stock.

Arai's XD helmets are a nice combo of Dirt and Street style. You get the forward chin bar of a dirt lid, which allows for lots of air flow, with a traditional shield so you don't have to fuss with goggles. Plus a nice visor.

Thank you. You just reminded me that I need to get a dirt helmet before the next supermoto trackday. I couldn't breath in my RR helmet, and it fogged up like mad.

Actually, they should... I'm just not sure when I'll have a chance to try em out? What separates them from the MotoGP pants I have now?

compared to true leathers? more flexible, less weight and less protection. basically a leather/textile hybrid MX pant. plenty of room for knee guards/braces, come with hip pads only.

trying to find a pic online, look basically like these but with a different TLD logo style, the name is fully spelled out. all black with white perf knees.

Well I'd love to try em on sometime. All my 38 pants (non-riding ones anyway) are all getting way too lose, so these might work. I'm slammed this week prepping for VIR and at VIR next week till Friday... any chance of gettin together for a try after that?

Hybrid helmets are made by Arai and Shoei.

Pretty cool. I think I saw JRO with one on. Not sure if it was hers, but she may have some feedback. MotoMarket definitely has Arai in stock. I can go for a ride with you after work one day.

cool, sounds good. i'm in no rush so if you think you want them we can work something out in a few weeks. i mentioned to a few others but no one has spoken for them.

zap me a PM once you know your schedule. i'll take a few pics so you know exactly what they look like.

Anytime after Friday of next week works for me, perhaps that weekend. I'll shoot you a PM when I get back from VIR.

    Re: WTB: Motard Gear?

I've got 2 Arai Xd lids, a silver one I use for offroad and red/black/white one I use for street and track riding, Best helmet design ever IMO. I'm sure I look like a tool sometimes but I even use it when riding the R1 sometimes. The air flow is so good because of the visor, it keeps you very cool on a warm day. Sounds crazy even with the MX style visor, but wind buffeting isn't much worse than a normal road helmet until around 120mpg (on a closed course of course) Perfect for SM riding!
It may be a little warmer for offroad riding than a real offroad lid, but I have found just leaving the visor cracked a bit is a huge help. It does fog (most goggles do as well) when riding slow single track trails on a damp cool day.

    Re: WTB: Motard Gear?

Thanks Mark, I think I'm gonna pick one of those up over the winter.... I'll make do with a normal helmet for now.

I'm gonna have to put a mohawk on it though, I mean, tribute to Bergs and all.

is that because you have a man crush on bergs, or because of the matching shoulders

Nah you just gotta step ever so lightly on his wittle toe.

The real question is... who *doesn't* have a man-crush on Bergsy?

*edit: he does play 2nd fiddle to Tricky Mike tho, he's so dreamy.

FWIW the XD's visor comes off in about 2 minutes and you can strap some real MX goggles in there for when you are off-roading. Slick design.
