Good call IMO because it wont be protruding, I am guessing they will wrap a metal plate around the clavicle like mine is. The most you will have is a small scar (provided the surgeon does the procedure properly) and maybe a screw or two that you will be able to feel.
What I mean by provided the surgeon does the procedure right is because when I broke my left forearm the doctor that did the surgery didn't tape the wound tight enough so the wound separated under the dressing and now I am left with this real nasty scar about 1/2 wide at the widest spot. I could go to a plastic surgeon to get the scar somewhat fixed but I am not sure to what extent so I have not done so yet. Would be a gnarly scar if it were on my clavicle though![]()
^yeah, my scar is pretty big
same here, had to actually force my doctor to do the surgery. i had one single break in the collarbone where the bones had slid past eachother. they ended up taking a metal rod and hollowing out the entire collarbone and then running a metal rod through it. the rod actually stuck out of my shoulder blade for 2 months. once it healed they screwed out the rod.... havent had a problem since, i dont even think about it. although for those 2 months it was tough to pick up girls my sophomore year of college when you have metal sticking out your back. do the surgery and like scott said, do the PT, its huge.
just got back home from surgery
im on very little pain meds because i have a very weak bladder n if i go heavy io on the meds i cant pee without catheter
went to boston public.
great people however you will find that nurse who had a lot help with affirmative action gt her the job
she stuck me 3 fcking times trying to take blood and i told her to get out of my face n bring in another nurse.
i didnt eat in 36 hours, was in so much pain n last thing i needed was someone poking me n keep missing. my veins were huge. even the other nurse said that nurse has a very difficult time getting it in. ionno why she still does it.
its easy to sit her n say give her a break howver its so different when youre sitting here on a full stomach n didnt have an operation.
anyways heres a vid of what i had done

Glad to hear all went as well as could for the surgery. I feel your pain when it comes to the extra needle pokes. Try as they may, some people just suck at getting it in. I got the titanium plate and about 10 screws put in on aug 26th and awaiting to see what happens with rehab. 6-8 weeks out and fucking bored. I think what little road rash I got around my puncture and the broken ribs pain is worse than the shoulder pain.
Don't push it and I hope you have a speedy recovery.
