***'01 F-150 w' Length from [CNG tank <-> end of tailgate] = 80" /6' 8"***
can it be done with all bikes forward, outer bike handlebars twisted out?
or does 1 bike have to be backwards, or staggered back?
Space lost from CNG tank, makes me worried the length is lost for a middle bike staggered back. Rear facing bike seems a PITA to tie down. Some tips here...but in my head, sounds *doable* but better with a trailer...
only issue is I'm helping 3 riders get from Vegas get to LA the day before LAB2V...and they have a trailer, but I'm not going back to Vegas after so I can't return it. 1-way u-haul open trailer $117 (wtf?)
most full size bikes are ~85"...but the last 10-11" of it hangs off the back...so really I only need 75" length...staggering a middle bike back 4" may not be enough...that's why I'm hoping to just twist the handlebars just enough to clear a bike in the middle.

I've had 2 supermotos and an 06 R6 in the back of my old 6'6" box gmc. Two outer bikes forward, the middle one backwards.

I've always done all 3 forward, just use one of your stands in front of the front wheel.

Simple stuff, middle bike facing rearward.

got a hitch? put one on a hitch rack. You can borrow mine if you want.
If you're worried the middle one won't fit facing forward because of handlebar width, can't you unbolt the bars and roll it all forward? Or if you want to do minor prep, take the front wheel off and have a piece of 4x4 wood with an axle sized hole drilled in it. But that's probably over-complicating it.

Another country heard from........
Put something under the front tire of the middle bike to get the handlebars above the two outside bikes when they are tied down that way they will all be similar in length and the bars will not interfere.
The middle bike, facing forward, staggered in the middle may be tricky...I can only set the middle bike back about 4"...need about 6-7" to clear controls and hand guards...
Backwards bike will work...best way to tie it down?
I was thinking of putting 2 d-rings to cinch down on the foot pegs, then a couple on the handlebars pulling it towards the front of the truck![]()

Take one apart and put it in suitcases in the passenger seat.

LOL...I almost did that when I was living in MA and had a rotation at a native american reservation in New Mexico...when things come apart, forks and frames end up being big and awkwardly shaped
the width looks there
but length wise, I doubt I can stagger a bike back much more than 4" and stay on the tailgate...and clear the other bike handlebars...
1 bike backwards looks the way to go...I will put a bigger (5.5") wheel chock...then work on secure attachment points
also bought these since 3 bikes on the tailgate:

Front wheels up on the tank?
The older I get the Faster I wuz
If you strap them right, you won't need the wheel chock. I think you're over-thinking this. If the length is there, and the tailgate can support the weight, just make sure you have enough straps.
Not mine, but there's quite a few examples on google images. I think you can either strap the middle one across the outers, or anchor the middle one to the bikes on either side.

any sort of accident or issue with the CNG tanks don't seem worth it, so I keep the bikes off it
& chocks just give me something to ratchet the bike to that's not the tanks
yup...this is definitely happening...
all they have to do is throw me $75 in gas round trip from LA to Vegas (split between 3 guys) and they all get dropped off in LA so they can ride back to Vegas
2 gear bags are light enough to go on top of CNG tanks...1 horizontally underneath the bikes...then 4 dudes in the truck
