I'm about to strap a block of C4 to my YZ250F. By the way, I bought a dirt bike.![]()
Biggest issue I have now is that I just can't get it to idle properly or stay at idle. I have done the research and have adjusted the fuel screw, did the carb clean yada yada..I might just end up bringing it to the stealership and say fix this. I am trying to make it down this coming Thursday to Austin because I don't have work on Friday man!
I bought an xr100r...damn thing has an fmf pipe and pops like lips when you ride it...this needs jetting like no other...and it doesn't idle very long
REMOVE and clean the actual pilot jet, frankly I'd just replace up 2 sizes
Check float levels carefully
Regardless make sure you have a Paper Element fuel filter
Usually can get from a lawn mower shop

I got my first dirtycycle last November. It was a 4 stroke KTM 520. With in 3 months I traded it for a two stroke and haven't looked back. The 4 stroke liked to overheat, it was very hard to ride slow and the power came on like a bomb. As compared my 2 stroke husky wr360 is easy to ride slow, it can idle for hours with out overheating and the power is more linear. It also starts easier, and it barely stalls. I can lock the rear, 180 turn and power out in 3rd gear. Granted this is all from a dirt riding noob.
^^ compared to me, that's not a noob!
and I already pulled the pilot jet...it was clogged, so I blew through it and made sure I could see all the way through...after I did that, the bike will idle a little bit, but stalls after 30 seconds or so...and sometimes the throttle response isn't so smooth, and it pops a lot when you decelerate
I think I'm going up 2 sizes on the pilot jet because it just "feels" lean, but nobody's open today that has 'em...

Your pilot isn't clean yet. You need to see a proper round opening, and the side pores need to be clear as well. If it was clogged up so much that you couldn't see through it, blowing it out isn't going to do the job, soak it in carb cleaner for awhile.
If the gas was old it can gel and make gummy slime so my standard answer
fresh gas with a double dose of
SEAFOAM

Oh boy here we go with the SEA FOAM stuff.

I bought the bike a week ago, and all I had was a street helmet, street boots, underarmour jersey, and I forgot my gloves at home

I'm having the same issue with my yz250f! Cleaned the carb, new gas, new air filter, oil change, checked the valves and it just won't idle properly

I will...eventually...
for now, the xr is just a cheap toy for get dual duty - mx tracks/desert, but also with a set of scooter tires I can up this go-cart track and do mini super moto days! the track is honestly too small for full size supermoto...pit bikes own out there
I'm also using the XR to teach other people how to ride a motorcycle, and my church pastor's family aren't really well off, and they have an 8 and 10 year old that want to learn too...I'm going to secretly surprise them and take them to the peewee track once I get a full-size for myself.
next purchase will be a street legal DR350...that way when I have friends visit, then 1 person can ride the DR, and I can take the FZR to hit the canyons, but when we hit the desert, I'll take the XR and they can take the DR. Or when I'm taking the kids to the MX track, they can ride the XR and I'll ride the DR...lots of flexibility with a dual sport.
then my last purchase will be just a straight, full-size MX bike...I was thinking 2-smoke, but maybe a 4-stroke, who knows...serious MX will be a much later purchase for me. For now the XR and soon DR will do enough for me. And I might not even make that a bike, it might be a quad for desert riding
plus, now that I'm working full time/adult, and in healthcare, the beginner or vet track at an MX park is good enough for me...I gotta go to work on Monday!
and honestly, it doesn't matter...the guys out there at milestone MX don't care about speed, or how big your bike is...just go out there and have a good time
and lastly, right now I don't have a garage...I'm just renting so the FZR is parked on the street, and the XR is enclosed, locked, and not visible in the bed of an F150 with a cap...so I don't pay for storage and the bike is packed up in the truck and ready to hit the track anytime
btw - did I mention it's cheap?? five hundy for a bike and fiddy bucks for scooter tires! beat the piss out of this thing and it still runs! Once I stopped riding what everyone else told me to get, and just rode what I wanted, I started having more fun...and saved more money...

It's going on Craigslist, I instantly fell in love with dirt riding, more then street by far so it's now worth me spending some money on a good bike. Thinking a kx250f, any thoughts?Originally Posted by csmutty

Maybe I'll bite the bullet and learn to ride a 2 stroke, what's good as far as 2 strokes go?
