Mark you're trying to do what I did back in 2004, I got about half way there before I realized I was going to have a 10k YZ450 :D
Keep the YZ , clean it, relish it.
Then go buy a WR.

…speaking of which, if there is any GYT-R stuff off of the 03 that would work on yours, or sprockets you're in need of, lemme know ;)
Thanks for the offer Chris:beerbang: Whatchu gots for sprockets?
I usually don't think about stuff like this for to long, and just end up with what I like/wanted that day.
The WR450 wins:shredder:
There's a few reasons, I guess in the end it comes down to money. Even adding all the lights, mirrors, switches, horn, etc to make it street legal, and the estimated costs to get a plate for it, I'm still $1,500 less than the awesome price I got on the KTM 530. And if i can pull off getting a plate for it on my own, it's another estimated $600 I'll save.
I called around and got some prices on the WR (thanks Sheppo for the PM) and in the end the dealer I am loyal to pretty much destroyed the best price I got. At first they said they didn't have one, once I said I was serious, he made a call and found one.
The WR is simple to work on and most parts from my YZ interchange, including the complete SuperMoto setup:naughty A plus side to that vs the KTM, I no longer need my KTM SuperMoto wheels/brakes and will be selling them to my neighbor (sorry, they were spoken for).
Hopefully next week I'll be able to pick it up:shredder:
Let me check…I think I have an OEM and +1 and +4 but let me verify…
Glad to hear you made the right choice :)
Once the Ape is gone, it's all Yamaha again:jackie:
The WR is on it's way, not sure if I'll get it by the end of this week or not, more likely Tuesday or Wednesday of next week:shredder:
I know sprockets are the same, I'm just hoping the WR doesn't have the same axle size change in 09 like the YZ did. I was just reminded of that minor detail when looking at wheels:idea:
:edit: It's in, picking it up tomorrow:woot:
:shredder:
what time ya picking it up? Planning on dropping my bike off tommorrow evening, maybe I'll see ya there.
picssssss? :naughty
Good idea:shredder:

sweet! I like the rear light on that thing.
that bike looks awesome, congratulations! :shredder:
it looks pretty sweet next to the other yami too!
is she streetable?
and a kickstand is nice, eh?
Yup, looks pretty cool when lit up, even has the 3rd wire for an optional brake light. Now I just gotta figure out how to mount some signals and a plate to it:naughty
Thanks:shredder:
It's not streetable yet, but I'm working on it.
The kickstand is a plus, that was one of the things I didn't like about riding the YZ for 6 days at Hatfield, always needed to find a tree to rest the bike on when we stopped
I put 1 mile on the bike out behind my house this evening. I need to do all the "free" power mods, it feels like a slug compared to my YZ.
hows the output on the front light, good enough for street use at night? Man I want a bike with a legal plate on it:rant:
Uncorked, it's not all that much less than the YZ. There's a throttle stop in it now set at half throttle, just one of the free mods that needs to be removed.
It seems very woods friendly from the 1 mile i put on it. It lugs down to almost idle while chugging up a hill slow, the YZ would have bucked and stalled without some clutchwork. Next week I'll play around on it some more:naughty
congrats, man! looks sweet :beerbang:
2 strikes so far against the Yamaha, though not a huge deal.
The Motomaster brake relocater bracket is different on the YZ and WR. Also, the wheel spacers are different, same size axle, just a different length because of the WR speedo pick-up.
Again, not a huge issue at this point as I won't be doing any SM riding with it this year. The focus now is to get a plate for it. Gonna make a parts list tonight for all the lighting and get that stuff ordered
