What dirtybike would you get?
Yamaha for it's rock solid 4-stroke reliabilty?
KTM, is it an offshoot of the SXV?
Was all excited for one until a started reading over on KTM talk

If money were no object?

For straight up dirt use, the Yami FTW!

A leftover for cheap. 250 cc minimum. 450 preferred. Honda CRF 450 up to 4700 out the door. Husqvarna 250 TC leftover about 3300

I don't like dirtbikes that are bigger than a 250. They are no fun.

I gotta wait for the local salesman to get back from vacation before I decide $$, but I'm leaning towards the Yammy
Yamaha
Wow! I didn't even notice there was a poll on this.
Yamaha all the way!
I'd go with the yamaha too.
Husky 310 looks nice as well.

I would get this for a extra 400

Another option, and it's probably the smartest IMO!
Spend the time and money getting a plate for my YZ450.
I haven't priced any of the stuff out yet, but as always the lighting will be the big ticket $$ wise. From reading threads on thumpertalk, the WR stator and flywheel is thwe reliable way to go. The WR flywheel will help with trail riding as well so it's a win win IMO.
I've got the bike, got the Supermoto stuff, got the dirt stuff, so it makes the most sesne as a replacement for the 525.
Gotta give it some more thought and put some numbers together, if I can do it for $2k, I may go for it![]()
Yamaha
the down fall is that its kick only , and if you are going to trail ride it , you may be stuck on a hill trying to get it going again where the easy button would be nice.

After last week, I'm used to kicking it...and learned yesterday that a quick twist of the throttle before I try to start it (goes against what the manual says) and it fires up first shot
Getting the lighting sorted is going to be more expensive than I thought.
Just for starts....
WR left side crank assembly
WR flywheel
WR stator
WR ignition cover
WR CDI unit
WR wire harness
All big ticket items, and that's not including the lights and switches
Yamaha
are you emotionally attached to the YZ?
it might be less work, possibly less money, less work, and less work to just sell and get a machine with all the bells and whistles (ok, so lights and horn) already on it
ive always wanted a WR (but in 250 trim)...go with the WR.
When I start my KTM in the morning, rules are broken. Its inevitable...
