dirtbike for 'bubs

you have exceeded my knowledge of appropriate tires...

the only input I have, is that I like the oem bridgestone trailwing 19/18 on my dr200 (they are different from the dreaded deathwing TW41/42 on the dr650)

...because they stuck well enough on street to do a supermoto day:

The seatconcepts stuff is very reasonably priced...
But definitely keep your eye on the adv classifieds, deals pop up (and go very quickly) there all the time.

My 'strom still had the Trailwings on them when I bought it. I agree, pretty good all 'rounder. I'm a ways off from my next set. Plenty of time to do too much research.

I actually think I may lean more aggressive than that for this machine. We'll see though.


And the stock seat is just fine for now. While it does make the V-Strom seat seem luxurious, it isn't too bad for 'romps around town. I love hanging off this absurdly narrow machine.

I think it will see a track day.

When is it going to see a dirty event?

argh...I've read about bunch of them...the specific tire models are somewhere in all the advrider/supermotojunkie/google searches I waste too much time with

but there are certainly a lot of good tires models out there!

Same. I'm in no hurry and I still want a 2nd set of wheels to really 'dual sport' this thing. 17's wearing street rubber and the stock hoops not.

Tires came on the wheels. Shinko Supermoto slicks. I guess they are kind of fresh. The little wear holes look good. I need to figure out the date code. I'm thinking I'll spoon 'em on for track days maybe? I'll have some street rubber for 'em by spring though. I just couldn't resist mounting 'em up for a photo or two.

The real kicker is that these are OE wheels, so they have the speedo pickup. And they are fully dressed with rotors-damned good rotors-and sprockets and such. Even OE spacers for the rear.

Naturally the rotors are oversized. So I need a spacer for the front caliper (on order). I didn't realize the rear was oversized. Probably going to have to buy an OE disk for it.

The hot setup is to put a piece of 3/4" ply on those. Or 5/8. Something substantial.

What's the ply do for you?

My biggest beef is with the lifting mechanism, not with the platform. The lever on mine doesn't latch in place. I have to hold the lever down and put the pin in each time. Also it is a bit wobbly.

The SM wheels lower the bike enough that I have to lift the ass and kick the stand under it. Naturally, I do this quite gracefully.

Maybe I'll pass on the Harbor Freight stand. Good thing I waited because I almost went to their Vernon store today to buy one but I held back. Thanks for the info.

Mine doesn't latch either. I do the same thing....keep my foot on and jam the pin in. It just gives a bigger surface area, and gets both wheels up with less teeter totter.

I think I over-emphasized the shittyness of this thing. For the money, it is great. I don't have a lot of experience with these stands, but this one is definitely good 'nuf for my needs. I would definitely buy again. And you can't beat the price.

Anybody know anything about gearing these things?

Seems the PO geared it down to 14/47 for off road. She tops out at like 70-ish. These SM wheels came with a 41T sprocket. The chain isn't anywhere near short enough for 14/41.

I hear 15/47 is okay for off roading and a decent compromise. Although I thought I read people were running 15/43 or so in SM mode to make the adjusters reach.

All of the above. I plan to try this thing at the track this year, street ride it, even maybe a commute or two. And the dirt hoops aren't going anywhere. Intent is to be able to swap back and forth in an hour or so.

- Pull axles, pull wheels
- Swap speedo pickup, add/remove front caliper bracket
- Install other wheels, set chain tension, torque everything down
- Ride

That's the plan anyway.

Turns out the SM has a 240mm rear rotor where the S has a 220mm. Now I need a 2nd 220mm S rear rotor for these wheels. Otherwise I'll need to swap the rotor each time too. Shame as the wheels came with a meaty 240mm rear rotor. Maybe I can flip that on fleabay.
