How big are you? Crf230 is a toilet for anyone over like 5'8" and 150lbs. It's the old skool setup, steel frame, conventional forks yata yata.

I would go for a CRF250X the X model has electric start and if you are in Nh you can get it plated.

KB knows more about these bikes than I do, but considering that you are a total beginner, that seems like a good deal. It may not be the most up-to-date bike, but should certainly make a good platform for learning to ride in the dirt.

    My wife has a CRF230.

It is a great bike, but I agree that 5'8" or so would be the max... assuming you're height/weight proportionate.

For your size, I would go with the KDX200 or 220 series if you wanted two stroke... or some of the KTM's, which are great.

But I'm a 4stroke guy now, so I would really recommend one of the newer, push button, 250 or 450's.

You will stall and tip over a lot. Having the button will make things easier when you're tired, dripping with sweat, and stuck on a hill that you've tried to get up 5 times.

By the way... I definitely plan to ride a lot more dirt this year so will be posting up rides often.

Also, if anyone has weekdays off, I'll be looking for some riding partners. I refuse to trail ride alone.

It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?
