do you guys typically have extra sets of wheels for your dirt bikes?
for example 1 for dirt, 1 for ice, 1 for winter trails.
i was looking at getting at least 1 extra set, possibly 2 for the very reasons i mentioned but the prices seem outrageous. $4-500 (retail) for 1 wheel new or $300 used is what im finding.
if you are running more than 1 set of wheels then where do you find them? just keep hunting on CL/ebay? or is there a go to dirt bike forum that has this kind of stuff regularly?

BahahaaaaHA
tire change is a bit of a pita...
Getting them cheap depends on how far you want to go...the cheapest way for me was to buy a roached bike and part out the rest = free rims
Package deals are usually good too. The plated yz250 I bought came with a spare set (with tires mounted too)
Using stock hubs with aftermarket hoops and relacing it yourself could be next depending on the model of the bike...
Drz and wr tend to carry a premium because supermoto riders want to turn their one bike into two bikes which increases the resale value of dirt rims...dunno about ktm, but I imagine they are expensive. Kdx200 rims for me from a 1990 model were $80 front and rear
Rear rims are more expensive than front...used rims are sometimes not straight/true
Then it's fleabay and craigslist...or street bike forums that don't have a lot of dirty riders
Dirt specific forums like adv rider kinda suck for getting rims cheap
Don't buy extra rims...just buy multiple bikes![]()

I have a set specifically for ice. I got them on ebay. Cost for front and rear together was approximately $250 shipped.

The older I get the Faster I wuz
A second set has been on my wish list for a couple years, but I keep finding other things to spend that $ on.

What is cross compatible within the KTM line? Do all the 2t enduros fit the same wheels/hubs? What years?
I think Oxx and I are looking for the same thing.
Off the top of my head: I don't know. (Which is probably why I haven't scrounged the web and already found myself a deal on a set)

I got a second set for my CRf cheap on eBay. They were supposed to be for Icey tires this year but I don't see that happening. As far as KTM wheels I haven't had the same luck finding a second set so easily. There is a brand that sells new set fairly cheap (600 for the set) and people like them. But it's slipping my mind right now.

Here is an SX set. I gather the SX is 21/19. But price seems right.

Are the SX fronts the same as the XC/XC-W? Both spec as 21's. I think this is what I'm looking for. But I gather there was an axle change in 02 maybe.. so maybe not.

Looks like the prices step up to $2-300/wheel for something more recent.
I got a second set for my DR on Craigslist for 50. Actually 40, the guy took off 10 bucks since I drove like 100 miles to pick them up.

A set of wheels for $50 would be a steal if you are riding a my-little-pony big wheel, nevermind a DR. I couldn't find anything even remotely that cheap for my DRZ. Otherwise I would have gone that route just for the hubs and bought SM hoops and spokes and laced up my own sumo set. Instead I paid like 20x that for a set.
KTM did change axles, not that I can recall the years. Generally speaking most wheels are now made for the later large axle bikes and you just run different spacers when mounting them on small axle bikes.
there's a vendor on KTMtalk selling new sets of Tusk for $500. The classifieds over there always have wheel sets, but it's like getting a fucking PHD to setup a user account.
i agree, that price is half of what ive seen else where.

I think so. I think your '03 300 will fit just about any KTM rear clear back through "the 90's". The front axle size changed over the years, 17mm, 20mm and 26mm. I think you and I both have 26mm axles. (I know I do.) I think this means that if you went with an '02 or older front wheel you would need a 20mm axle and the reduction kit. I think that's how that works.
cool. that opens up way more options...cheaper too.

Yes. I bought an '01 front from a 250 EXC last night. Should be here in a week. I'm going to wait-and-see on the axle. But I suspect I'm going to need a pre '02 axle and the KTM spacer kit to use it. Wheel was $125 shipped.. which is way, way less than a newer wheel was.
Fortunately I already have a spare rear.
