Yep. My buddy Mike's brother got attacked by a turkey once back when you could still ride in Groton. Never saw it coming. I used to ride at Groton Town Forest when it was open, I don't recall any sand pits in there tho? It's be closed for years, probably 10 years now.
I went for an unplanned swim in that gross green river...lucky for me, the bike got hung up in the trees and didn't go for a swim as welll
Yamaha
The sand pits are on the other side of town by the Westford town line. I grew up near the sand pits, and rode in that area my whole life. We had a 55 mile loop we did a few times up until 2005. I don't think we could do it now with the amount of building that's been done.
They are next to the town's transfer station and across from soccer and baseball fields. There are bikes/quads riding there once in awhile, but I don't think it's ever been 'legal', just not enforced very often. But once in a while they catch someone. Most of the surrounding woods are conservation land. The land has been for sale for a long time, and last I heard Groton is going to buy it and put in more soccer fields.

@ 1:10 in this video, do you see this large, buf standing next to his motorcycle watching the other rider eat shit while clearly thinking "wtf is he doing".
