LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
With assistance we wrapped both kids bikes last night:
Son will be Peewee Sr on the SX65, daughter will be out of pee wees and running the girls class on the GasGas MC85.
A few rule changes this year, you now have to be a AMA member. BUT there is contingency for most brands. $150 for 1st, $100 for 2nd, $75 for 3rd. ALL CLASSES! I got the kids signed up yesterday! (Daughter got 4 2nds and a 3rd last year, that would be $475!)
Camper slide out which is our bed isn't working so no camper. Hauling the trailer down and staying in a hotel in Springfield.
Also, there is a new 6 hour team enduro for day 2 of Hemonds.
Bummed as usual I can't race, kids are hyped.
Weather forecast: ABSOLUTE SHIT. Rain all day Saturday into Sunday morning.

Last time that GasGas is gonna be that clean
Worried about daughter running the GasGas in a race. She only has 10 hours on it. She will be out there with the SuperMinis and those guys are fucking animals.
Track preview is up
How was it?
I don't have a reliable bike right now (waiting on parts) but probably wouldn't have gone based on how much rain we got leading up to it.
Last year's mud race there was a shit show. I'm all set with that. Lol

It was an adventure as always. VERY low turnout, we got there from the hotel at 6:30 am on Sunday and we were able to park down by the start. Rain was off and on, low 40s temp. My son was off first in Pee Wee Senior at 8. I told him like 4 times to pull his clutch in, put it in second, and shut the bike off and he wouldn't do it. Finally he did, the green flag drops and his bike wont start and he says "See it wont start in gear" So I dont know if I need to adjust is clutch or what. He goes right into the xtreme section and crashes, I run in and help him with one hand. He had a good moto and was running fast and looked good, but the top riders are SO fast. He finished 10/10.
Next at 9 my daughter was at the line for girls, her first race in non peewee, out there with the super minis. It ends up that someone cut the gate and came in the night before and Southwick wouldn't let the race start until the people came forward, so they got iced at the line for 20 minutes. Race finally starts and HER BIKE WONT START. Tough class, only 4 girls, but top girl runs GNCC, has a holeshot device, etc, you get the picture. I was most worried about her on the MX portion, as the hills out there can be a BITCH to climb. She actually made it up all of them though! Thennnnnn, I didn't see her for a while and I started to get worried. Finally saw her coming and she pulled off the track crying. She crashed hard, broke a new bark buster she got for christmas, landed on the bike and took a bar end to the throat. We pulled her off and checked her out. She is okay but sore. She insisted she wanted to do the second moto. So we waited and dried off and warmed up. Loosened her front end and un-tweaked it.
It stopped raining around 11, her second moto was at 1:40. BIKE DIDN'T START AGAIN. She took off and played catch up. We ran over to the moto section and as I was worried, she stopped 3/4 up a hill. Way too far away for me to get to her, but a spectator ran out and helped her. She made it to the next hill and didn't make it up that either. Same guy helped her out again and I ran over to the woods section to cheer her one. She pull over and said she was done. She came around and finished a lap and pulled off. Said her throat was swelling and she couldn't breathe and was just done. We went back to the trailer to warm up. Turns out third place struggled too, and if she had gone one more lap she would have got 3rd that moto, third overall, and got $75 contingency money from GasGas. Oh well, she got 4/4. We packed up, headed out and made it home by 8. 9 hours of driving, over 500 miles, but the kids had fun, and everyone is okay. I look forward to them trying MX207, much easier track.
There were only 9 man enough to run C Senior, and one was a DNF and one got 1 lap, I coulda got an easy top 10 if I had raced!!!!!!!!!
There are some new classes, there is a mini Jr class my son could run, he wants to change to the so he gets 2 motos instead of pee wee sr. We will see. He's only 9 and on a 65. Class runs up to 12, and up to 112cc. Pretty tough to compete against a 12 yr old on a supermini...

Thanks! I let them both design their own wraps. She got a bunch of compliments on it. I'm not a fan of pink, but it did come out great.
The cold rain is really making Southwick 1 hard to commit to each year.
I was down on the Cape for something else this weekend anyway, but don't feel like I missed much fun.
I actually didn't run any JDay last year, and now with the new AMA thing, the kids are now old enough we need to pay gate fees for each, debating if it's worth it ($$).
Might stick with more NETRA this year, and mix up a few HS, turkey runs, enduros and such. Otherwise just more casual ride days.
But we'll see.
I see your poinmt, and 40 degrees and raining is miserable. But I accept the fact that I live in New England and like outdoor activities. Attendance was NOTABLY low. I mean, 10 pee wee senior? 4 girls? 9 C- Senior? These numbers are easily half what I have seen in the past. I also didn't see any pros that I recognize. I hear a buncha people were at P27offroad?
There is a new 6 hour team race twice this year.

It builds character, right? right?
I put it to the kids, and they were 100% in.
Gillette SX was Saturday night as well, might have contributed to the low attendance ... we went, talk about a shit show! hahaa the pros looked like they'd never ridden dirtbikes before.
agree with Paul's comment, Southwick gets real tough in the wet and cold, especially for smaller bikes. nice job getting in the mix!

If you do the math, 9 hours of driving, 4 tanks of gas, hotel, dinner, jday membership, ama membership, race entry fees, etc for him to run 40 min in a cold rain and her to run 30 minutes in a cold rain, it doesn't work out. But I am painfully aware of how fast they grow up, so I'd do about anything for them. But maybe someday we will just to a maine motocross series instead of jdays. Its just the first thing that was suggested to us and the first race we did so its just kinda become our thing.
^ another +1. it's all worth it.

Next one we do will be MX207 early July. One year we would like to make a run at doing every event.
