All the state owned trails in NH open up on the 23rd so who feels like going riding some time over the Memorial Day weekend? Sunday is dedicated to beer and BBQ but Saturday the 25th and Monday the 27th are open and I will definitely be there at least one of those days.

Monday sounds good...
Bill,
Normally I would be all over this and commit to one if not both of those days. However Memorial Day weekend is the Stimilon at Southwick and I will be running that for the first time ever on Saturday. I'm assuming that I will beat the crap out of myself on Saturday and not feel like riding on Sunday or Monday. If that changes I'll get in touch with you about riding on Monday. We will definintely need to ride together this year. I can usually be found at Hop-Ev at least one day out of every weekend.
Joel
Is there a map or trail guide available somewhere that shows routes open to bikes?
Here is a link to all the trails that the state maintains: http://www.nhstateparks.org/experien...formation.aspx
Keep in mind that not all of them are open to trail bikes (particularly up North). All of these places require an OHRV sticker.

No worries Joel. I don't live that far away and plan to make it a habit of being there semi regularly so there will be plenty of opportunities to ride. I'm favoring Monday to go check it out so let me know some time Sunday if I should be looking for you.
Good luck at Stimilon!

Newbie dirt question..
Is this the same as Clough?
The extended forecast is showing beautiful weather for Memorial day. I plan on arriving there around 8am to try and beat some of the potential crowds. I'll be the guy with a black Mountaineer pulling a 4x8 utility trailer with a KTM in the back.

I'm planning on it and talked a friend into it as well. Saturday and maybe Monday. I'm hoping to be there at 9ish.

Well it looks like I'll have to bow out of Monday. I went to bring my trash to the transfer station and lost reverse on my tow vehicle. You can feel it engage but then you can hear the reverse band slipping. I have now way to tell if the solenoid is engaging completely or if the band is worn or broken but all 5 forward gears work fine including overdrive. I can't even get it looked at until Tuesday so I'll pick another weekend once it's fixed.

Went out today with a buddy, it was better than expected...
Definitely going next weekend so anyone heading up let me know.
I'm going to dual-sport my way up there today and see how the new trials tire handles asphalt at 12psi. I hope to be there before noon.

I beat the hell out of myself but had a great time. The parking lot was packed but the trails weren't crowded. The new trials tire hooks up just about everywhere including mud. It's only real limitation is high speed cornering without berms since there aren't any knobs on the side. I can live with that trade off.
On a different note, perhaps I should read over the hip protection thread.

atta boy! when you said your truck was out, I kept thinking "doesn't he have a dual sport?"
so you're another trials tire believer??
andat hip protection...wtf mx pants - they seriously fail
yea my MX pants did 0 against the frozen ground and rocks at Hop/Ev ... my hip still hurts in the rain/cold.
Dual sports are great up until the point where you realize that you have to ride home (25ish miles) after getting beat up and exhausted from a days worth of trail riding!
I now see what all the hype is behind trials tires. Other than turning at speed on flat dirt, you have traction everywhere. Despite not being balanced, the tire was nice and quiet on the roads too.

I went down this weekend out there good, going up an off camber uphill right the tire hooked up sending me a little right. Of course there was a bigin root sticking out into the trail, the front wedged into this and the side of the trail and stopped dead, I went over sideways and hit the damn tree with my shoulder and my upper thigh connected with a rock. I wear an armor vest zip up thing from O’Neal and it saved my shoulder for sure. The thigh well not so good.
I was wearing my Knox CE shorts too that I used for road racing that saved me more than once on tar..
yep, so I'm with ya Bill - I ride the dual sport to local trails, but for any serious riding I truck it out there.
but glad you like the trials tire...I'm 100% on getting one for my "dirt rims" for the dr200se...with 15hp, that tire will last forever
sqzeplay - I'm set on the armored jacket too. The armor stays right in place unlike the strap on equipment, and the hard plastic fights the trees and rocks that land directly on your joints. the hips/legs, all of us are lacking in protection here...
Be there at 9AM tomorrow, then Miller time...
