I'm about to be a dirty bastard again

Just bought Mondo's CRF 250. Hoping to get out next weekend. Squirrel offered to get my head back into motocross. That's how I started as a kid.

Nice. I don't have the balls for mx, but if you wanna go flying through the trees, I'm your huckleberry.

You would have a good time at Crow Hill. No need to do huge jumps if you don't want to and the track Is fun. I had a good time there last summer but like you I seem to prefer the woods.

Nice. I'll make it down to Crow Hill one of these days. I just picked up a 2011 KTM 350 SXF myself, back into the dirt!

I'm up for anything. Haven't owned an mx bike since I was 15. I'll probably hit Crow Hill with Squirrel, but will take it easy. Ripping through the trees sounds good, too. I'm starting all over with this, so I'm up for anything.

Re: I'm about to be a dirty bastard again

Question for you guys...are you using the neck brace/support? I assume it's standard safety equipment. Never had anything like that when I was a kid.

Half the people use neck braces and half don't.
Crow Hill was pretty nice on Thursday. The new layout that they did last fall is easier on the noob rider than before, but there are some challenges for those willing to hold the throttle open. The 2 jumps that used to kill my wrists are now something I can attack. I'm a hack mx rider at best and I was over jumping the small double by my 3rd lap and jumping the mid size stuff comfortably by the middle of the day. We had a few 60 year old riders on the track with woods bikes and they didn't break anybody.

i dont think i rode CH once last season (damn, that feels weird to type) what's the layout like this year? the backwards thing was just temporary, right?

Re: I'm about to be a dirty bastard again

The Crow hill layout is still what I consider backwards to the direction it was the years before. I found a video from this year. It's not me, but he runs a similar line to mine only much smoother,LOL

Holy hell, I haven't been since they reversed it. Is it me, or is it a bunch easier this way? That guy is smooth, maybe that's it?

Re: I'm about to be a dirty bastard again

It's easier in the sense that you can lay up a little short on a few jumps without breaking your wrists and that allows you to work up to the distance and figure it out. I think the Go Pro hides how steep the landings are in real life. I preferred to land that first big table top jump with my front wheel right at the top of the drop and seat bouncing off the lip because of how steep the landing felt, even though I easily had the distance in 4th gear. Of course the grooming can make a big difference in a few weeks span. ( I wondered if Robbie had been running the other way over the winter) I'm sure Seth would have been able to use the landing though.

That guy is smooth if you judge by the weird dragon's back thing above the old entrance. He does a step up to a step down. I started with a half way up, hang the rear wheel then a squirrely out of control step down. That later became absorbing the 2 sharp whoops then grabbing a handful of 450 throttle for a big floaty step down that was under control.

Ya, I couldn't tell what that thing was before the start/finish. Maybe that's the most technical spot in the new layout?

I have a 93? RMX 250 for sale when you're ready. It's ready to rock for 1k. Great woods/mx play bike.

You know where to find me! I just rebuilt the forks, and the motor is SOLID. fresh chain, sprockets, pads, needs nothing.

thanks for the vid, Eddie. I remember watching that last fall and thinking, huh, sorta freeway-ish now. looking forward to checking it out but the old layout seemed to have more variation.

what's up with the old step-down into berm area that used to flood? completely removed?
