Re: I'm dumb. Y'all know it. So make me be less dumb. KDX? CRF? KTM?
I'm getting the feeling you shouldn't be working on bikes... haha
I've cut my bars down in the past, and it didn't change the mounting points enough to cause problems. You can only cut so much before all the lever perches start going into the fat part of the bars as well, so it's unlikely you're bars are cut to short. Sometimes you may have to bend/tweak the cycras a little bit to make the fit right.

Re: I'm dumb. Y'all know it. So make me be less dumb. KDX? CRF? KTM?
I got the clutch side on with a little help last night.
The bars weren't cut, just worn from taking a couple hits to the ground. Measured them and there was about 1/8" more on the clutch side. The throttle side was pretty tight already, that explains the effort required to bend the guard in place to get it on.
I cut down my bars on the 125 and I really liked how it felt once it was more narrow. Maybe I'll do the same on this.
With my track record recently with bikes, perhaps I should just take up Parcheesi instead. That or buy something new where EVERY FUCKING BOLT isn't seized.
At least this KTM is pretty easy to work on.

Have you tried using propane gas and/or MAPP for fasteners that you think are seized?

Re: I'm dumb. Y'all know it. So make me be less dumb. KDX? CRF? KTM?
I'm pretty sure the bars on my two-hunnie are cut down. I think I like that as it contributes to the bike feeling so narrow and agile. I also have had trouble getting guards on. I just put some muscle into it and tighten away. I replaced the cheapie guards mine came with after they kept popping out of place with some bling-bling ones. Then I dropped the bike (as I am known to do) and what do you know, the bling bling set pop out of place too.
Still. They look cooler than the old set. I ride euro now. That shits important, yo.

Yes. This isn't my first rodeo. But man, it's all about the access. Most of these bastards are recessed allen head. Can't get a torch to the thread or head without heating up flammable areas of the bike. Can't even weld another bolt to the existing for more leverage. Or, it just snaps....
I'm sure part of this is my lack of free time to work on shit now that I'm an idiot breeder. QUICK GET ALL WORK DONE BEFORE MORE FECES AND CRYING BEGINS!

Bubs, I still need to look up those springs (and spare springs) I have for this thing for potential mutually beneficial transaction. And we should ride Clough this spring. You can show me what this thing is capable of.

If it makes it any easier, once it's in the rear view mirror, it doesn't seem like it lasted that long and some of the incidents (getting pissed on in the face, child laughter generated by baby food being repeatedly whipped against the wall, and especially the time one of them puked on my wife's head while sitting on her shoulders while I was talking to a guy in a men's suit shop come to mind) are freaking hilarious.

The random night fevers to 103, the TWO days of daycare she's been able to go to in the last 2.5 weeks (no sick kids allowed, still gotta pay), and the pinkeye this morning, again, is sure going to be fun to look back on.
Stupid biology making me love this little genetic experiment of a person so much.

If you're having trouble, you should get someone who went to MMI to help you out. Those guys really know their shit.

For all the time I spend on this forum, I totally missed the mmi joke.
Sad face.

Don't forget the folks with 2 extra strokes. We like to ride too!

Seriously though. Pisgah. I'm ready to check that out.

Re: I'm dumb. Y'all know it. So make me be less dumb. KDX? CRF? KTM?
My bike is ready, so once shit dries out and opens up, I'm game.

Re: I'm dumb. Y'all know it. So make me be less dumb. KDX? CRF? KTM?
I have 4 (four) sets of front springs. Several are marked WP. Others are unmarked. Marked sizes look 38, 41, 42 and 43. I went to 48's.
I have 3 (three) rear springs. All are marked WP. 63-250, 66-250 and one with the size marking rubbed off. IIRC it was the stiffest of the three. I went to a RaceTech P15 progressive spring.
You're welcome to anything in that pile that catches your eye. Or take the pile and experiment. Just give me back whatever you don't want to keep. I'm (very) happy with what I upgraded to and only want the spares for eventual resale.

For Clayton those .41 would be about right.

Re: I'm dumb. Y'all know it. So make me be less dumb. KDX? CRF? KTM?
That 63-250 spring and 38 springs are right up my ally.
I'll see what I got to give ya as trade. I know mine it setup for 190# bad hombres right now.

I'm in the 65-75 Kg range. For a 2009 "200 EXC" (I think that's what they call the XC), that puts me in the 38 spring and the 63-250 unless I'm reading this wrong.

Re: I'm dumb. Y'all know it. So make me be less dumb. KDX? CRF? KTM?
The bike is really light. Rada and I are in the same weight class. His 450 is at one end of the spring table and mine is at the total other. It's crazy.

Not required. Challenge will be to figure out opportunity for handoff.

Kurlon's mom's place again? Handshake is ok, but no other touching.

So .38s would be on the extremely light side.

So figuring out exactly what teh springs markings mean is important. I rarely see any marked in Nm

Re: I'm dumb. Y'all know it. So make me be less dumb. KDX? CRF? KTM?
Yeah, KTM marks them with the two digit number. 38 is the 65-75kg spring for me and Bub's bikes. 63-250 is the number for the same on the rear.
I just love it when a plan comes together.
