I have an opportunity to pick one up. I think it's an 07 and has 6 hours on it (flat track only). I know Peter rides one. Could I make a good all arounder out of it? A mix of track and trail riding is what I do.
What is it worth on the used market? It has a doma pipe/ VHM head/ port work. I can get the stock gear with it (minus the cylinder)
Flat tracker? Is the frame raked out? Sub-frame dropped? Front wheel downsized? What makes it a flat tracker? Me, I'd just find a clean YZ125.![]()

There is nothing like a KTM. I'm not sure what you'll need to do to set it up for what you're riding. Might want to check with Peter about that, i don't know the models too well. I'm looking to slip into a KTM soon also though. The EXC that KB's got is crazy nice.
It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?
You will love the bike in the tight stuff, hate it at the MX track, and be looking for more power in th open stuff. I ride almost exclusively in the tight nasty NE trails. (ask KB & Jay) It's like riding a 40 hp mountain bike. If you want to some MX you'll be ok, but if you really want to ride MX get a four stroke. ( I have a 426 just for MX and ice) I have made lots of mods to mine to get it woods friendly, The first is an 18" rear wheel and suspension work ( I know a guy!). Also lighting coil, heated grips, high bars, etc... If the price is right, around 3500-4000 it would be a good deal. You may like a 125 at the MX track more that I do. I think I have a full 100 lbs on you, so it make a big difference to me when trying to make the big doubles.
KTM makes a really nice bike. I'd say go for it. I don't think you'll look back. Really well put together machines, and they ride great too. I love my 520SX (even in the tight stuff).
I think a 250SX-F four stroke would be better for all-around use, but I'm just biased against two-strokes.

Pete, thanks for the post. I can score it for under 3K. What's the rear wheel size stock? I really wouldn't be able to invest in wheels and suspension for a while. I'm wondering if at 130 pounds, the stock stuff might work for me in mixed terrain. I'm never going to be a supercross star or anything. Right now I'm jumping pretty well on a stock 90 KDX, so I think it would be an improvement. I love the KDX motor though. loads of lowdown and decent mid to top.
The 125 has the best low end of any two stroke, but it's still a two stroke. I had a 1990 KDX as well and you will love the 125. It has about elevendy billion times the motor the 200 does, and the suspension is light years better. For under 3k don't hesitate, do not pass go, just run the bank and then to the seller.
The stock rear wheel is a 19". You can use it off road, but most guys run the 18" to prevent pinch flats. We can do the suspension at any time. It will be a little rough in the rocks, you HAVE to ride hard to make it work, or you will bounced all over the place. At 240 I have 110 lbs on you. The springs may be a little stiff for off road, but will be ok for MX. The valving will suck donkey balls in the rock gardens, but on flat fast sections you will be fine and for MX you should be able to make ok with the clickers. Just remember that KTM made that bike as a full on MX/SX bike, so disregard every thing you heard about how good the KTM is off road and you will not disappionted.

Yeah, for <3k you really can't go wrong if the bike is clean.

I had the same problem Paul. Replace the crappy 30 year old carpet in the living room with hardwood, or get my 520SX.
Do the bike. With the money you're saving by not racing, you'll have enough by fall to get the cabinets.
