I have a YZ400F, 1999.
The bike took a beating durin a fall yesturday and a lot got bent/broken.
Ironically, after the crash, the compression release worked fine, I rode back to the truck to load her up.
Whats weird is, I started the bike up again at the truck but wouldnt start at all becuase the compression release has no pull Its rock hard.
Im at work and cant look at the bike till tomrorow however I figured Id get some opinions.
Could it be the connection ?
If not the connection what could it be ?
Thank you
I've seen them bend at the connection at the motor and get stuck open. If that's what it is, just bend it back easy and you'll feel it snap back in place.
I miss having a decomp lever for starting, easier to start IMO than ther auto decomp
Yamaha
Thank you.
Also, do you know where I could find universal handle bars for the 99 YZ400F local ? I have a big ride tomorrow inwhich Id like to make but cant if my handlebars are bent.
Thanks
there are not many dealers open on sundays but try cycle design in philipston , I think they are open on sundays and my have some bars in stock , it wouldn't hurt to call .
just about any handle bar will fit as long as its the same OD thickness ( 7/8'')
there will be differences in the rise ( or height ), and the pullback.

ya just take the cable off and trace it back and you might have a snapped connector or like R7 said...the lever on my crf is frozen I just haven't bothered fixing it yet.
