By flipping the motor "backwards" they acheive mass centralisation and simplify servicing. I think it would increase rigidity as well. The only reason for the fron downtube is to protect it from rocks ond logs.

Edit: NM, I see it now... strange looking.
It's not backwards like the cannondale. Just has the crank on top of the gearbox with the barrel tilted forward. Crank is higher, but rotating closer to the center of gravity. Supposedly makes the bike change directions like a two-stroke...

That pipe is tucked in very nicely. If you've seen any of the World Enduro Racing coverage, you've seen the type of terrain 'Bergs are designed for. This mass centralization thing seems promising.
So, where's the nearest blue KTM dealer?
Yeah, many of the orange dirty bikes have them. I'm not totally stoked onthe reports of Heim bearing failures, but I'm still on the original. I put a rubber boot on it from day one and really kept the mud off of it. Seems to have worked. Come to think of it... Hey, Paul, that's something you may want to consider.... From what I remember, it was more of a sealing issue... the bearing itself seems up to the task, the seals just allow enough grit in there to make a mess of the teflon-coated race. Are you thinking of trying the greasable version?

There is a Husaberg dealer in Rindge, NH, 15 minutes from my house. I like to go in there and drool.
