Wow! What a day. The 58 degrees and sunshine made things pretty comfy at the track. I rode 5 20 minute sessions and definitely shook the cobwebs out. I think it's been 5 months since I rode last.
Anyway, here's the full report:
Thing started slow as I never winterized the bike, or fully set-up the trailer hitch on my new rig. I realized my old 2" ball would work on the smaller reciever, So I had to go to the store.
Then, I kicked and kicked but no love from the KTM. I pulled the carb, cleaned the pilot, and then she fired on the first kick. Aaah...
I made it to Mototown for 1 oclock, and there were only a handful of people there. SWEET! They lowered the price to 60 bucks. Schwing! The track configuration was totally different from last winter. THe kiddie track was gone, and one BIG, fast track occupied the entire building.
For those who were there last year, the spectator jump remained, followed by a hard left, but it was jus one fast straight out with a single hit near the berm at the end, and one straight back with a table in the middle. Then it turned right and went out to were the kiddie track used to be. A fast run into some stadium whoops.
This is now the "technical" section of the track and it goes like this: Berm to a table-ish stepdown, berm into a 40 foot double. This one is all or nothing (we'll here more about this later). Berm to stepdown, berm to a 50 foot step down with a STEEP down ramp followed immediately by a jump into another berm. This one flattens at the exit. potholed straight into a pivot turn.
then the track doubles back and heads straight for the spectator jump. You actually need to scrub speed for this one now, as you could easily sail into the bathrooms if you held it open!
I was rusty, but had a blast, especially in the corners. I was quick in the whoops, but that 40 foot double was my nemesis! There was only 20 feet of aproach and a short ramp. The 125 would just not squirt quick enough to clear the face of the second jump. I took two slaps from the KTMs board like seat straight to the nuts trying to clear it.
I had to pull off track both times to let the boys decend from my belly. I finally learned that if I just railed the berm wide open then upshifted and prayed, I could hit the crest of the second jump. Woot! After I made it 3 laps in a row, I called it a day.
Pretty cool you already got a video cut and edited up on YouTube Paul! Looking good!! YouTube - josh hill goon

Hey Paul,
I actually read the above report and (besides making smartass comments with hilarious vids attached) I'd like to say that sounds like a kickass day.
Man 60 degrees today back home? Wow. Wish I was there at Mototown riding. New track layout sounds mint! I like the 'real' doubles (didn't have any of those back when I rode there) and the whoop section. None of the tracks out here have good whoop sections and I mess them.
Know what you mean about the doubles. So much more brainpower needed going into them (large consequence factor) but once you get it it's so worth it. The local track here has a few doubles sprinkled throughout going from 40' to about 50-60'. The big ones are like BRAAAPT BRAAAPT.
How's your seat-bouncing skills? For alot of the quick dubs out of turns you really need to seat bounce them to get the pop. It's a skill I had to work on (and am still working on, constant progress) in order to quit casing up pesky dubs.
Once you dial in the seat-bounce you can really start having fun. I'm working on dialing in my whips and Bub-Scrubs at this point.
Thumbs up on the good day and look forward to us riding moto again. At some point..

Yeah it was a seat bounce required double for sure. I was trying to get a good bounce, and I can normally do them, but this ramp was short and steep, plus I was hitting it at the top of 3rd gear, so timing the bounce was tough for me. The ramp really threw some G's at you and I was a little nervous about getting crossed up.
I don't know if it was just me, but I found it kind of dark in there this time. Maybe it was the higher speeds, but I couldn't see detail really well. Especially the big ramp of the spectator jump. It was in a shadow, and I just had to trust that it wasn't getting hacked up.
