Anyone up for the first ride at PSF of the season this Sunday? I'm itching for MiseryI'm guessing all the ice is gone but there may still be some soft spots.

Volluntown, Ct
The forest entrance is 1 mile down rt 49 coming from the intersection of 138/165/49.
We usually park at the boat ramp across from the park entrance.
10:30am to give things a bit of time to warm up a little?
Your bike must be street legal, insured and registered. bring your paperwork with you because there is a good chance The Man will be checking this time of year![]()
First time out this year so I'm sure the pace will be just above walking speed![]()

Dress warm, it's gonna be a chilly startI changed my wheels over last night and took the bike out of the basement about 10 minutes ago, all I have to do is check the oil, tire pressures, put gas in it and make sure it still runs
I'll see you'z in the am and be prepared for Misery

There's a Mobil station 1.28 miles from the forest entrance, we will be making a gas and lunch stop there around 12-1![]()

Man, I think I spent more time on the ground today than all last seasonGravity was out in force today!!! Messed up both mirrors, scratched both bark buster/brush guards and I have a nice dent in my headpipe.
As for me, nice big bruse on my right leg and a very sore back, what a way to start the season.... and I'm ready to do it again
Lucky I wasn't the only one that fell today thoughGood riding with you'z Sean and Leah

Hey where was wayno? You missed a fun day of self mutilation.![]()
I have a few pics of the effects that gravity takes . But I need to get them developed to a disc before I can post them. I used a disposo cam on the chest protector to get some action shots that you just cant capture with a digital![]()

Sorry about not showing up. I was kinda looking forward to going but couldn't decide wheather to on not to. Well I guess I decided not to. I've started the spring clean up around the house. The tulips and dafodils are coming up and the front grarden was buried in leaves. All done now so the next time I will go for sure if I'm welcomed. Went out for a short ride this morning on the Katoom into southern NH. Man it was cold. Stopped at a friends house in New Ipswich and his thermometer read 22 degrees. I guess I know why I was a little cold.Originally posted by theothersean

BTW I've been self mutilating all winter. Fucked up my left elbow and fractured my right wrist. Still a bit sore ta ride but I can't wait ta do some woods riding.
Wish you peeps would consider some new spots. There's more on the menu to choose from.
Glad you peeps had lots of fun though!!

I have a variety out by me there is something for everyone, from tough single track to powerlines to dirt roads . Its just nice to follow the leader sometimes and not be the leader all the time. BTW thanks mark for leading today.
IT wasn't much above 30 degrees today the woods and rocks kept us sweating but when we took the road to the mobil station we froze our asses off. But warmed right back up when we got back to the trails. Mark said there is soem easier stuff we can mix in for next time.

Mark..where'd you get the mirrors? 7/8ths clamp?

My mirrors are some elcheepo brand the dealer had, knowing they'd get busted, I didn't want to spend to much. I think it was $12 for both of them. On the KTM's, you can buy the top clutch lever clamp and front brake master clamp that the tops are threaded and except the mirror, so I have no extra clamps on my barsOriginally posted by Rye

There's over 50 miles of single track and another 50 miles of dirtroads, we are lucky if we've seen 20 total miles of combined dirtroads and single track. I'm not done exploring what's there yet, plus for once it is a spot close to meWish you peeps would consider some new spots. There's more on the menu to choose from.![]()
I did just fire off a email to the CT dep asking for some info on the Forest. There's very little information about what trails are for what users. There's a NETRA route sheet you can buy (not sure why you have to pay a private club for the route to a public riding area? ) but from what I've read it's about as easy to read and understand as a doctors perscription notes.
Today we got a little verbal abuse from a man walking his dog and claimed we were on a hiking trailMind you this trail was well used by bikes, it was a marked trail and there was a red arrow (trail markers when rhody rovers first made the trails) nailed to a tree at the beginning.
There should be more public information to this area not only so we as riders stay on the proper trails but so other users know that we can be there![]()

Mark those trails look prety tame compare to what we have up here in NH. I'd like to take a ride south and check that shit out. I'm street legal and all that shit. One of these weekend I'm coming outa the boooooth annd down to RI for some of "your" trails.
KB

Wow...this looks like a blast. Never been there. Next time you get out there, can I tag along so I can learn where you go?
Although, my bike isn't street legal. Does it have to be to get there, and ride there?
Sorry, I didn't feel like typing it again so I quoted myself from a post aboveOriginally posted by knobby

KB, those trails look tame in the pictures but they do have quite a few hard sections![]()
I was actually not in the same area we rode in last year, we were farther north in the forest last year and there were very few rocks and hard sections. We got tired quick and never made it to the easy trails![]()
I have no problem leading you guys around that place, our pace may not be up to speed but it will be fun and entertaining![]()

I have a question???? Why would I need street legal to ride in the forest? Would not just an ATV reg. be sufficient?
Public ways interconnect the sections of trails. And because The Man says so, that's why.Originally posted by knobby

90 degree angle? That's what it says on the registration.
Or am I misinterpetting this info?
