    Riding sat 3rd

Anyone riding tomorrow? I was thinking it would be fun to have a small group come out and mix it up at my little practice track. It's small, but fun to rip with a handful of guys. Anybody down?

Yes they are deep. I work for Toyota and as one of our benefits we can lease cars through the company. So we have to order our vehicles through a website. They "attempt" to match with something at is already built but they never really do. This means it has to be built by the factory and then shipped to me. Amazingly enough the process of buying a house is quicker.

My truck should be in within the next couple of weeks. Its been built and shipped. Just hasnt arrived yet.

What time? It has been a while since I have been out there, and it would be nice to ride that track again. I have sold my CR250 and would probably ride my DRZ out there (a 40 minute ride), so do not expect on track competetition. I also have a dual sported KDX, but it is not ready to go yet, and that would be on the long side for tarmac for that bike.

Paul, the forcast is calling for *rain*.
I am kind of a "fair weather" guy, especially if I am going to ride out (and back).
That track is tough when the whoops get filled with water, and the back side gets all greasy! It is tough enough on my nearly 50 year old body when it is dry!
The steep uphill/u-turn/downhill section was always my favorite.
I would really like to get out there and meet you, though... I could let my brother know that we were heading out there, so he could...stay away!

Hummm, yeah, I was hoping the rain would be light. As long as it doesn't pour, a little rain makes it easier to ride.

Yeah, that S berm is one of my favorite sections of track anywhere. It's really the reason I go back.

It's a hell of a lot easier on the body (and faster) to reverse course so that the SBerm is downhill, but its nowhere near as much fun to me. Throwing it into that tall right hander as fast as I can, sliding sideways, leaned 90 degrees or more to the horizon and still being able to gas it up is a crazy good feeling.

    did you guys go out?

    if so, ride report?

one thing I love about dirty bikes is that you don't have to have fair weather to have fun on them

I did not go out on Saturday due to the weather. I did get out for a bit yesterday, locally, with a friend. We followed some newly cut mountain bike trails. The terrain was super slippery, with the wet rocks, and big puddles.
The Michelin Dual Sport tires on my KDX grip like they are made from rock maple.
I spent the rest of the day "hopping up" my friend's Metropolitan scooter with a Ruckus needle and main jet.
That thing needs a YZ80 motor!

No, sat was a serious washout. I don't like to ride my local track when ite really wet because its soft and get seriously chewed up. Erosion is bad enough already.

Surf was fun on Sunday though...

    Re: Riding sat 3rd

After work ride today was fun, despite some standing water. I found a really fun new line running reverse course. There's this little jump that passes through some deep erosion walls and dumps you into a right hand berm. I was whipping it a little to the right and putting my rear tire on the vertical erosion wall bouncing me back to the left to set up for the corner. Just had a really fun flow to it in a snowboarding kind of way.

Planning to ride after work thursday if anyone is up for it. I can get out by 2:30. It's supposed to be 70 degrees

Paul, I think that I know just the spot you are talking about. That is an awesome description of riding that section, and if you are indeed placing your rear tire up on that wall, you must be flying!
With the long Holiday weekend coming up, I hope to see you out there!

    Re: Riding sat 3rd

Yeah, I should be around. I'll post up when I know my schedule.

I didn't really need to be flying, just had to have the right pace through the whoops to have some pace AND the wheels on the ground for the take off ramp. I was trying to double the big, deep whoop, but with the puddles, I couldn't make it. It would likely have made the move I was doing impossible though as the wheels would not have been driving on the take off ramp.

btw, there was a big bear wandering around DURING my session. I never saw him, but there were fresh tracks in the sand on top of my tracks. His hind paw was as long as my hand.

I have ridden this track when it was frozen! If there are puddles in between the whoops when it freezes, one has to be very careful! The fields and trails around the surrounding area make for some relaxing exploring when there is snow on the ground. The area is very entertaining, to me.
The whole Bear thing is kind of interesting! The worst I have ever run into down there are some homeless folks living down by the river.

I ride it til I can't. November is usually good if it doesn't rain too much. The place holds a lot of water.

everytime it rains my line options reduce. Today was an exercise in precision trying to skim whoops using the same 12 inches of dirt lap after lap. Still nice to be able to ride after work

access to riding from your house to go during mon-fri is definitely convenient

No, it's not a backyard. It's a few hundred acres of farmland with dirtroads, a dike. some small trails and a southwick (but small) style track. Click the link below to see some pics...

    Re: Riding sat 3rd

So, yesterday was fun, but interesting. My buddy came out as well as Ken C but I couldn't scare an axtra bike, so I rode my SMC with track rubber. We goofed around on the farmroads and I was having fun, and even jumped the big beast pretty good.

Then I made a big mistake and turned down a wet trail. The soil near the river turns to greased lightening. I simply tried rolling through and was down instantly. It felt like trying to stand on a bowling ball on a freshly oiled lane. I fell once more before we got out of there.

When we got to the track, there were trucks, quads and bikes everywhere. People with no helmets or gear going every which way except the standard track configuration. We did some very cautious laps because we never knew which way these guys were going to enter the track. (I parked the SMC and we shared the 125 and Ken's DRZ)

I flagged them down and told them we were trying to do laps and didn't want to get killed. I even led around the circuit to show them what was up. Then I ripped a couple quick laps, but another bunch of quads came on the wrong way. We backed it down again, did some bike swapping, and then rode home. It was still a great time. My buddy did some great riding for having been off bikes for 15 or more years. Ken seemed to enjoy the 125. Hmmm...
