Just snagged a set for $20 at motosport... These things are excellent. loads of articulation and a brace-like support.
I would like to spring for some knee braces sometime, what are you guys using on the knees?

not sure how to go about doing that... im all ears though.
I was using a soft six six one knee pad before I got these hinged ones. Always interested in what other people are riding with/without. I'm usually not settign a good example when it comes to gear, but i did invest in some additional gear this year.
I didnt handle those transactions to be honest. Something went through district/store manager when it happened. My manager just told me that insurance covers them (minus like 100 bucks). Only reason I know. Pretty sure its the PODs, but I could be wrong.
I know people that have gotten Asterisk braces written off by insurance. AFAIK you get the scrip, buy the brace, then bang up your insurance to reimburse you.
Def a must for any MXer........I had a set and they were worth all the coin. One trip to the ER and they were bought.

I use a thor set similar to the ones posted here. The "hinge" is a problem though as I've already lost 2 bolts. It's actually not necessary, so I'm thinking I'll dremel the hinges right off, and whack the secondary straps as well. I like them overall, but they are over engineered. I'm leary of "braces" as they also seem overdone to the point where they could cause harm.
Full coverage with a little support makes more sense to me than a brace that tries to do what the knee is supposed to do.
I have a cheap fox set and I wrap my knees with regular ace bandages beneath them..they do the trick but I don't really like em. These look much better, maybe for next season. But yeah, riding without knee protection is just asking for trouble. So easy to bust the top of your knee wide friggen open from impact alone.

A man of many names...Jay, Gennaro, Gerry, etc.
pittster - find out what the name of the knee pads are, I'll check the NDC (national drug code) for them, then Kitt - call your prescription insurance company, ask them if they can check to see if they cover something, then give them the NDC for the knee pads
then it's as simple as having the MD write an Rx, bringing that Rx to a pharmacy and they will bill it to your insurance and tell you the copay is
not all pharmacy's distribution centers can order it...so call in advance and check with cvs, then target, etc); worst case scenario you take it to a medical supply store (you know...the places that sell wheel chairs and stuff)
I doubt most pharmacies would have it in stock, so give them a business day to get it in stock
Paul, I feel like the braces will minimize knee "wear and tear" from all the impacts. I hear what you're saying though, I don't like feeling over-restricted, but when I find gear that articulates well with me, I get warm and fuzzy. Pumped to spring cash on the crossfires next year!
These are the soft ones I have:

any help reducing soreness with the knees banging against the tank?
I have a pair of Evs knee braces. Weird at first riding in them but after a ride or two I don't even notice anymore.
my dad got a "'script" for a knee brace. any good knee brace would need to be fitted to you like his was. i cant remember the name of the company that makes it, but i remember recognizing the name as one that ive seen riders like McGrath wear.
When I start my KTM in the morning, rules are broken. Its inevitable...
