Check out the bikes they're fielding.
DUDE
THIS IS AWESOME! LOLOL
“That bike is surprisingly good.”
And I know exactly how the bike feels when the rear bounces all over the places and “it has no low end you gotta rev it to idle.”
The 'rev it to idle' is the result of a worn clutch pushrod assembly. The rod, ball bearing and tophat eat each other over time, and eat into the pushrod. The fix I found was to reshim the assembly with valve shims in the top hat. Was pleased to see both bikes make it to the end.
Also, becoming more and more of an AJ fan, just a good guy all around, looking forward to doing another school of his if the opportunity arises.
where the clutch cable attaches is also a discontinued item
I bought an extra used one from ebay just in case
was also pleased to see both bikes finish...and AJ was indeed a good dude!
that RMATV video was a 4 part series...check out the first few

Literally just finished the first three. Can you imagine if we had known and both showed up with our machines at the beginning.![]()
people are particularly more impatient this holiday season
690 is still in the shop, so I took the YZ to sneak away a couple hours to get my sanity back
of course the closest OHV area is closed from the recent rains
oh well; I just rode the fire road next to it
but man...every first ride makes it feel sooooooo fast
and the weirdest thing - the stutter at WOT/higher RPM's wasn't there
I didn't change a thing. The bike's been sitting for a month covered in dust...it started 4th/5th kick and it rips.
Maybe because it's a little cooler and I was riding it close to sea level?
i dunno
snuck in a little bit of this
amped me up to plan the next day to ride
now if I could only get days off...been working 8 or 10 days straight...and now people are testing positive for covid, and I'm being picked up for a corporate project. yay.

ahh the Cajon pass
the gateway to the high desert
being along the freeway reminds me of riding at Franklin along the highway
rode the trails and hills near the freeweay
and it just rained, so epic chocolate cake conditions
you could be WOT just sliding through these mushy conditions
bike ran great! It was loving 48-55 degrees out...coolant temps were under 150.
it's just such a fun light trail bike after riding the 690...I definitely want to transition it to full time small bike duty
it still has that studder/miss...definitely gonna try some main jet changes
my only major issue is SoCal traffic. It took me 2 hours to get to the staging area, and I only rode 2-3 hours...then 1hr6min drive home. If it was only an hour drive; yeah it's a good fix. But a 2 hour drive was a little tedious for a short small bike ride.

first ride in almost 3 weeks for the YZ
she fired up in 4-5 kicks![]()
took her where I took the 690 last time
the YZ is obviously way more fun in the tighter stuff!
we found some flowy single track stuff in the hills
the spot wasn't bad; staging area/CVS parking lot was only 27 mins from home, but you have to ride 5 miles of pavement to hit the dirt. I kinda like that because it keeps a lot of quads/dirt bikers out of the area since they don't have a place to park. Rolling hills with single track cut into it...you have to connect some of it with some fire roads, but it's not too much fire road.

short sections, but flowy
22 miles, done in under 90 mins
time-lapse mode: 1 pic every 5 seconds.
May even try 1 pic every 30 seconds & turn off the LCD.
2 batteries should run a full day of set-it-and-forget-it
I also splurged and got the flywheel weight!!
I am about ready to pull the cylinder head off and do an inspection, so I may add the FWW at that time.

man, that looks dreamy
Beta 200RR
I try to tear down & inspect when I can:
cooling system is doing great...almost full
head still looks clean AsF
I never want to run a higher compression head ever
no detonation/hot spots...no snags on cylinder stripes:
![]()
I am suspicious of this power valve stopper
ordering a new one now for insurance
EDIT: they're $100 each brand new!
I also tried packing my tools and test fitting the tail pack:
umm...no...
even if I move the plate and tail light back, that's not a good idea
it's attaching to just fender plastic. No subframe. It's heavy and may rip off the whole fender in the whoops.
rotating it *may* help, but I dunno...
I'd also need to fab special brackets to line up holes.
otherwise, about 4 spokes were loose on the rear wheel
filter just spray cleaned & rinsed w' water and looked pretty good
oiled her up and good to go
put on the flywheel weight.
on pavement, it feels about the same.
can't wait to try it on the trails!
but if it doesn't make a noticeable improvement, I may take it off...one less thing to wiggle loose and fail.

tested out the flywheel weight today:
honestly, it's kinda meh
the rpm's hang a little more than usual, and maybe you can lug it 5% more than usual before it stalls, but it's not too different than without it.
It was a wee bit more steady in the ST; but the most benefit simply comes from your own rider skills in balancing and managing the throttle
got to see some snow up there too:
ocean views
And I witnessed a helicopter landing:
not gonna lie, it was pretty bad ass!
he was meeting his son up there
gonna tighten down the flywheel weight, do another run in some hills or desert, then decide if I want to keep it on
getting the ported cylinder repaired w' a cylinder head milled out for pump gas is where I'm thinking I want to try next in the motor.

interesting about FWW, maybe give it some time. they really only shine in the slower tech sections when a little more momentum in the motor will keep it alive. i found that nice in the woods when adding to an MX bike.
Beta 200RR
Bear in mind that gen YZ doesn't have a small flywheel to begin with, so adding a weight isn't the massive change you get compared to some starting with tiny flywheels.
I may have dropped things too early in the past
I will definitely keep it a little longer to give it a chance...I didn't know it was already heavy, credit to Kurlon!
if you can stand staring at my handlebars for 30 seconds, this is how it did:
my palms get sweaty just watching it...sketchy narrow sections
but honestly this 1st gear ish kinda looks like the ideal spot to use a FWW...maybe I should keep it
VERY COOL! much thanks![]()

tried some more seat time on the FWW
it definitely makes the engine speed a little more stable
found some "new to me" ST sections in the local ride
they're only 30-60 seconds of riding, but something to add onto the usual ride...not too technical

flywheel weight cover spacer has uneven "squishiness" which doesn't allow for even pressure from the case screws...and despite tightening it came loose.after 3 rides
bolt got stuck on the shifter
spacer slid down and dragged/jammed the flywheel so engine wouldn't turn over (felt like it was seized)
I had the tools to loosen everything, line up the spacer, and get going, but mannnnn....stock yamaha is best! when you add mods, it's just another thing that can break.
after that was sorted, I did the loop...seeing some yellow:
looping some of the ST together, it's a 25-30 min loop
honestly, that's an excellent mid week rip...I wish it was closer than 35 mins away!
FWW is coming off, ported cylinder going to EG w' head to mill for pump gas. May try a lectron or PWK38 AS next.

I wish I had any "legal" riding within 35 miles of me that was worth riding on. Closest thing to where I live is the Rockingham Rail Trail which while it is nice to have a trail that is open year round the fact that it is flat, relatively straight and has a very low speed limit that is enforced makes it not so appealing to ride there. Other than that to be legal I have roughly an hour ride.
There are some not legal areas that are somewhat tolerated but if the F&G or DHR show up it can get expensive quickly
woes of the dirtbike riders in 2022...unfortunately this doesn't get any easier
blows my mind that riding a dirt bike in a hilly area that with nobody else around you and they'll send a helicopter, 2 police cruisers, and a tow truck.
I'm looking for a plot of no-mans-land within 15-20 mins away that nobody else wants; something hilly with no water, power, or even anything paved LOL. If it's a cheap enough cash buy, I'd hit it. Ride out (no freeway), do some laps, come home. In the mean time 30-120 min drives will have to do...1st world problems
meanwhile, thank you auto-search on eBay!
here's my next mod...

daylight savings mean after 7pm sunsets
the new-to-me spot is ~35 min drive from work on toll roads.
if I'm loaded as I get off work, I can KSU 6-ish and get in a 1 hour ride on the single track-ish loop.
some people on groups are bugging me to check out another spot 1 hour away near Lake Elsinore.
Hoping to check out 2-3 more epic spots before the summer heat turns on!
low beam doesn't work...guessing the baja designs resistor burned out...gonna order a new harness & just run high beam for now
clutch slack was high too...adding it to the routine checks.

another post work 1hr quickie loop
there was a critical uphill moment that FWW ROCKED! I was gonna stall and the RPM's just kinda "hanged" so it stayed running! I kinda wanna keep it now...I'm wondering if I can run the cover without the spacer
I also finally need to replace my rear tire. I can usually slide the rear out on fire roads no prob; but this time I couldn't save it and had a gentle dirt nap. Going to an 18" + nitromoussse
I also got the FMF Gnarly - it's in pretty good shape for its age! not all rusted out
next steps:
-18" rear wheel, new tire, nitro mousse
-FMF Gnarly + jetting
-PWK38 AS
-mail ported cylinder + head (for cutting) to EG
^ ultimate trail combo!!!

fun fact: an 18" rim doesn't necessarily mean the (rim+tire) is any shorter than a 19" setup
18" is on the right
just threw on a cheapo DOT Kenda trackmaster. For "C" ride duty, cheap = best.
Wiggles funny on pavement, but hooks up *enough* on dirt
the 19" and 18" even have the same 49 tooth sprocket = straightforward wheel changes
1st ride w' out the flywheel weight:
Definitely stalled accidentally a couple times, but the trade off for a quicker revving motor (and stator cover properly secured) is worth it.
ST is a little overgrown
found a little bit of new stuff too, and honestly adding a couple more ST sections makes the loop *just* entertaining enough for a 2-ish hour ride
after doing 2 days of canyons w' Iglu, getting back on dirt with the YZ felt like being on a rocket ship
dirt is so fun
