Hey-o. Never bought a set of dirty tires in my lifeEdjumukate me!
For woods riding, but prefer DOT legal tires purely for inspection purposes as I'm still planning on getting this thing registered.... eventually.

what kind of bike and what kind of riding??

01 KTM 400EXC. Mostly woods riding. Some MX, maybe?
Just need DOT to pass inspection so I don't get hassled by the fuzz ridin to the local spots or goin trail to trail.
Gotta check the bike to see what's on there, but online specs say 90/90/21 and 140/80/18.

Well I would definitely go with something pirelli. The MT16's are really good...but i'm not sure if they are DOT. They do make some good DOT tires, can't remember the names right now, but i'll check when I head to the shop tomorrow.
I know this isn't what you're asking, but if it were me I would go with non-DOT tires. Especially if it's some aggresive woods riding. I don't think you'll get hassled by the cops for having non-DOT's... unless they really wanna screw you, and you can just throw some DOTs on when you need to get it inspected.

The industry standard for dots is the dunlop 606.
The new England standard for straight dirty tires is the Bridgestone m59 front and Pirelli mt16 rear.
Sub mt16 for a trials tire if you want.

MT43 trials tire is DOT... hmm.
Here's a thread on that & the VRM 308.

I had the Dunlop on the 300 I just sold. The only thing it gave up was long ass sweepers where you wanted to lean it over and pin it and rail...I just wasn't confident with it. Everything else, slide point shoot, game on. Super slick mud is slippery for everything, so it's pretty much a wash.
I'll probably grab another tt for the new bike soon.

The Pirelli Scorpion pro front is DOT rated http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com...ront-Tire.aspx
and the Scorpion Pro rear is DOT http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com...Rear-Tire.aspx
XCMH rear is DOT. http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com...Rear-Tire.aspx
check out Motoz tires as well, they have a few aggressive DOT legal sets. really liking the Enduro STs i'm running on the WR.

I'm running a Kenda Trackmaster 2 DOT on the back of my mount. Heavy, doesn't excel at anything, but doesn't seem to completely suck anywhere either and wears like iron so far. Oh, and they're cheap.
I've got the BT M59 front, worked well for me but isn't DOT.
Do not get the trials tire. I tried it for a season loved it when it was a dry season the slightest bit of moisture and it sucks balls.
