Just picked up a trials bike. Any of you guys into those shenanigans? Are there any areas to ride outside of the normal dirt bike spots? I figure they require less space, so I was hoping there might be some areas to ride closer to home (north shore, MA).
There’s a regional club that has events.

Thanks! I'm gonna be a full jabronie on this thing for a while, so I'm just looking for a spot with some logs and rocks where I can break some levers...not quite ready to compete yet (or even ride in public).
If my yard was even a little bit bigger, I would build something there.
The local to me group often did Sunday play days, just show up and wander the woods as a group looking for fun challenges. I rode with them on a barely running, no clutch beat to snot WR250ZD and had a ball. No worries about skill level on those days, it's all for fun and practice.

That's cool. Thanks guys.
And yeah, I can't imagine the trials segment is too hot these days. The bikes are all $10k and parts are unavailable. Plus, who wants to wear a 3/4 helmet?
I wonder if it's coming up on a slight resurgence considering that many of the big names in enduro have trials backgrounds. That gets mentioned a fair amount. KTM and Beta also got a lot of industry press for their moto-trials hybrid bikes. Saw a guy on a NETRA ride with a Sherco hybrid that looked like it leaned more trials than moto. Said he liked how light it was since he wasn't young anymore or along those lines.
I think the RI club is fairly active, granted that's probably a bit too much of a drive. In 2015, one of the world trials events was held in RI and I've seen trials bikes on the highway heading that direction on the weekends.

The RI club has an area in Escoheag (Exeter) RI. It is the ONLY place in RI that its legal to ride a dirt bike. Of course it has to be a trials bike - so you are all set. As said above its probably too far to go there regularly but you should contact the club Rhode Island Trials Club, as they have had world events and national events there over the years.
As a side note just a couple miles from there was RI's only ever National MX race at a defunct ski area in 1978. I was there but due to bad weather everywhere in RI that day, except there, the event had few spectators and never returned.

That's cool, I've always wanted to pick one of those up but I feel like I don't ride the bike I have enough. They look wicked fun. Bring it down to Freetown next year, I'll show you 1 or 2 rocks you can play on!
I had kind of the same thought (don’t ride enough as-is), but talked myself into it by saying I could ride this more places and could do more shorter trips, vs the all day adventures on my YZ.
Plus it was cheap, so that helped.
There is a healthy group here in Connecticut. I have worked a few events. Rhode island also has a club

How is this endeavor going? A event just north of Portland this weekend coming up.

Found this gem on CL after a long search. My requirements was pristine and cheap. 2001 Montesa with a Honda engine. Been practicing basic skills. Going to enter my first event September 16. Luckily I don't need any equipment. I am attracted to this because of the low costs, the reduced chance of major injury, and most of all the bench racing and camaraderie that any form of racing provides.

I did my first event in Exeter RI. I got humbled real quick. I got banged up. Met a lot of nice people. I enjoyed it a lot. And I got lots to learn. LOTS.
Come to the meriden motorcycle club event in ct on the 30th. I will be working a novice section.
No better time to get into this very tough sport.
