Ha! I wasn't trying too discourage newbies with this thread...

My best woods story was one day on my KDX at pittsfield. We were ripping up this long, rock strewn climb (imagine that) and there were 5-6 foot erosion walls on both sides. I was hugging the left wall to avoid the worst of the baby heads when my front tire deflected hard into the wall.

Well, it just hooked up and in an instant I was on top of the wall, on the pipe in third, looking down a steep, tree lined ravine to my left and a 6 foot drop to my right. Tim Moore was right behind me, and I was suddenly looking down on the top of his head. Very disorienting as it happened so fast my brain took a few seconds to catch up.

I dropped off the wall back onto the trail right next to Tim and never let off the gas. We were both laughing all day at the absolute unrepeatable bizarreness of how that unfolded. I could never climb a six foot cliff on the pipe in third if asked to do it.

sure you don't want to sell that 250 rather than trade? i think my neighbor would scoop it up for the right price.

Paul, how are you liking the KX250F?
I'm shopping for a new ride now that my YZ is gone.
I'd like to hear some opinions on the 250F vs the 450.

I'm still trying to decide between the 250F, the 450F and the KTM 300 smoker.

    Re: Woods crash

I love the 250F. THe thing is friggin fast. I don't see me ever needing a 450. Besides, it's much harder to get whiskey throttle going on a 250 than a 450... Ha!

my classic horror story is from a GNCC style hare scramble i raced in FL, 2/3 woods, 1/3 MX track. there was a long straight when you got back into the off-road section after the MX track where you would basically have the gas pinned until a left hander into the thick woods/single track...

a poor guy on big bike (i was on a 125 at the time) was haulin' ass and hit the ONE stump top that was sticking out on that straight. the seat came up and hit him so hard in the ass that it knocked his fucking eyeball OUT! he was in a coma forever after that wreck. cant remember the final outcome but none of it was good. puts some fear in you for a while...

OK, back to the funny vids!
Was he on a Cagiva by chance? What year was this?

man, this is going waaaay back for me. i was an FTR member at the time so it was one of their hare scrambles. pretty sure it was northern FL area but most of the races were spread all over. i'd have to think about what year that was but i prob have some random pics from another race that season.

    not sure on bike model...

does that story ring a bell? i remember getting updates at meetings or newsletters.

    Re: Woods crash

This guy was a central New York MXer turned woods racer named Ethan Goodrich. He was fast as hell on a MX track but due to injuries decided woods riding would be a safer bet.

This would have been around 1990ish. I'm pretty sure he was still riding Cagivas at the time. He went down to Florida for some big woods race and ended up severly injured after contact with a hidden stump. I don't know the details too well because I lost touch with him after he quit racing Dist. 3 MX.

Your story just sounded so similar to his that I wondered if it was by chance the same guy.

    Re: Woods crash

just looked up Ethan... different guy than my story but still sad. Ethan was injured in '92 at the Alligator Enduro in Daytona.

the race i'm talking about was probably around '88 or '89 in northern FL. we traveled for about 11hrs to a race way up, i think that was the race. maybe up near Tallahassee or so.

i'm pretty sure the guy never came out of the coma and didn't survive
