Save the date, plenty of planning time

Hey, planning ahead will make the winter go by more faster

July 17/18, 2010 Thrill & Chill dualsport ride.

Sean and I did this last year and had a blast, going to do it again for sure.

this time I will probably bring 2 bikes, do the big dual sport thing sat , following that route sheet was actually fun, then do the trail ride on sunday .
it would be more funnerer with a bigger group .
No one seemed to mind the potato gun being fired off either .

    First things first, BUMP
Days are getting longer, think spring and summer!

Sean, I like the idea of doing both rides, tho my thinking/plan is a bit different.
I'd like to do the dualsport ride Saturday first thing, then come back and ride the trail ride section that afternoon.
Sunday I'm going to ride the long dualsport ride again like we did last year rather than the Turkey run. Remember, Turkey Run = race practice for most

So one dual sport and one straight trail right. May be game for trail. Not cool enough to dual sport it yet.

if you have a street legal dirt bike, use it for both the trail ride and the dual sport ride .

I rode the dual sport ride both days last year on a wr250r granted there was a lot of pavement but it was still fun .

You'll need a street registered bike for either ride, even the full on trail ride You've got plenty of time, get to work

Tully you need to tell the organizer to stop making this on a race weekend.

Haha, wish I could..but with so many offroad events per season, that aint gonna happen.
When you gonna come down riding and drinking again?

    Just an update..
I just met with the trailboss this evening for the big bike and dualsport ride and I agreed to allow the use of my trails as a "hero" section for the dualsport ride.
First gas stop for the dualsport ride is 72 miles IF you cut off from the big bike loop at the halfway point and join the turkey run loop (which he suggested if you want more trails) If you run the dualsport/big bike loop, the gas stop is around 120 miles I thought he said.

My plan is Sunday only, show up for breakfast and ride the dualsport loop half way, then jump on the turkey run. Lunch stop is a pigroast

Re: Save the date, plenty of planning time

    Sounds good Sean

I changed the oil in my bike today and I'll swap the wheels at some point this week.
I plan on being at the fire station at 7am for breakfast. I'll probably drive the truck there with the bike in the back so i start with a full tank, first gas stop is going to be tight with my bike..haha
Are you and Leah ok with doing the first half of the dualsport ride and jumping on the turkey run loop? Less miles total but more trails...and I was told the afternoon trails are the easy ones

Re: Save the date, plenty of planning time

As I under stand the set up there is a big bike loop and a turkey run
for those that want to do the 3rd option called the dual sport , you do the first 1/2 of the big bike and the second 1/2 of the turkey run which was what we were planning to do .

I generally hate rock beds/hero sections...but it sort of reminds me of trials riding...so at the same time I get a little excited when I see it. Would I be able to pass on a short-travel XR200R?

haha...I like that you called this the "dakar" section...

better on a big bike or small?

and there's a nice turn in the beaver pond loop down at Franklin that has a nice uphill banked turn, that gets much smoother, the faster you go. Could you hit this uphill banked turn at a high speed? or were you paddle walking while floored in 2nd?

and does the KLX plate needs to get bent outwards a little? it almost looks like the wheel might've grabbed and bent it in a little. And that brake light, albeit big and fugly, looks like it has excellent rearward visibility!

From what I heard, they built the temp bridge Friday and it had to be removed ASAP after the event. Not sure if it's still there or not.

Nice report Sean other than missing out on the pig roast, I had a good time. It's to bad there wasn't as much dirtroads as last year, but at least I learned some new kickass SuperMoto roads.
That trail section kicked my ass after lunch. As fun as they were, I wanted it to end..haha
My knee is a bit swollen and hurts, and I have many little pains in the body just from being out of shape. Still can't beleive how stupid my fall was, but gravity is stronger when the tires are on rocks and your feet can't reach the ground...and you're going to fucken slow
Good day for sure, I know I'll be back next year for sure though I think it's time to try the full turkey run and skip the adventure part

Those trails are on my property. While it is rocky, it's not extreme rocks like a trials trail. I did not use the real rock gardens on my property for this event as it would have been hard to use them and make it a loop. For the most part, you would have no trouble with an XR200
