I signed up for a trackday with Penguin racing April 26th. Has anyone ever done just the trackday with Penguin without the racing school? Just wondering what I can expect, anyone have anything good or bad to say?
In particular I'm intested in how they break up the groups, passing rules, any special Penguin things that are out of the ordinary.
I attended and Instructed during the Sept one.
I thought it went rather smoothly.
3 sessions.
Advanced
Intermediate
Beginner
Did some follow-the-leader stuff in the morning to get people in the groove. Beginner group (I think I recall) did some quick classroom stuff to go over Track Procedure (flags, pit in, pit out, etc).
Tons of riding time.
Red Bull.
Penguin instructors to link up with and get some feedback from.
etc etc.
I won't be able to ride on the 26th (bike not ready) but I should be up there hanging out, maybe doing some flaggin in the treehouse, etc.
Here's some pics.

I did a Penguin day last year. It was a very good experience. On this day they broke it up into 3 groups: have never done a track day, 1+ track days, and licensed racers.
This was my first nudge into the middle group, but being my 3rd day at the time I still felt very new. It was a great learning experience and at the end of the day I felt a lot better. I did bag out earlyaround 2PM because it was very hot, I had little sleep, and was dehydrated. Also there were a lot of crashes which led me to think that I wasn't the only one feeling a bit out of it.
New experiences included touching down a peg in the bowl for the first time (Street & Comp was onsite and I had Woodcrafts ordered by end of day) & riding with full passing (rule was "keep all passes clean").
I think that doing different track days will help you learn more than sticking with the same one, partly because each has a different slant, people and instructors.
The Penguin day had the track walk in the AM I believe, which was different than Tony's or Team Daemon's. Another big difference was that the other track days really pushed being cognizent if you are WFO on the straights and lugging it through the corners. There was one guy on either a 999 or 749 who I couldn't pass because of this, it became to the point of annoying so I mentioned something to one of the Woods, his resposne was "you just need to learn how to pass, show him a wheel he'll let you by".
I'd love to do another Penguin day, it was a great experience.

I'm going Friday with my new 600RR ! Weather looks good too.
I have done the school about 4 years ago as an absolute newbie. I have to say that as a first track day experience a Friday Penguin School is not the greatest.
It set me back abit confidnece wise... but I kept at it.
You get a lot of serious speedsters that will make you feel like you are going backwards. I think that problem arose from alot of experts sneaking into the beginner group for extra track time. Hopefully Penguin has cleaned up their act about this.
