    Dumb tire question

How do I scrub in new tires on a track bike before a track day if the bike is not road legal?

I've used Kerosene and it seems to work really well.

    Re: Dumb tire question

You just wipe it all over the tires with a rag and then wipe off the excess or something?

    Re: Dumb tire question

Use warmers, and take it easy for the first few laps. No real need to do anything ahead of time.

I wouldn't put any chemicals on my tires.

I was going to go with Power Pilots, I thought you had to break them in for 100 miles?

Normally i would agree that chemicals on a tire would be bad, however I have done this to 3 sets of tires and it takes the stuff right off without leaving any residue. I just spray it on with a bottle and wipe it off.

2 laps will do it. Use brakes and accelerate hard. Increase lean gradually.

+1. They will scrub in pretty quickly on the track. 100miles street scrub-in period probably is equal to 10mi on the track (<1 20 minute session).

    Re: Dumb tire question

Just go easy on the first few laps and increase your pace incrementally as it goes, or just go easy on the first session.

THANK YOU! Just ride the thing.

I don't ride any differently on brand new tires than I do on cold tires. Ride half to 3/4 speed for lap or 2, progressively working towards the edges then ride as normal. No warmers or kerosene needed.

I have put brand new tires on, came off warmers and ran the 1st lap of a race full speed... And that was NOT one of the times i crashed... Like the others said if you don't have warmers by the time they are heated up they will be clean and good to go.

A LITTLE brake cleaner on a rag works well, do NOT spray it on the tire.

And you might as well use your left hand index finger to apply grease to the chain at the same time.

i prefer to use the grease on a tattered rag wrapped loosely wrapped around my fingers so they dont get dirty
