Is there any benefit, aside from increased empty weight so it doesn't fly out of my open trailer when I'm too stupid to lash it down properly, to getting a metal gas can? After my most recent Wally World plastic can broke (well, more accurately, the nifty piece-of-crap spout mechanism failed), I'm thinking about buying a more expensive gas can. $9 isn't a good value if I can't get the gas out of it at a trackday.
I started looking at Northern Tool, and they have a 5-gallon metal can for $40 (about $50 shipped to me). Otherwise, I could spend half that much at Sears for a five-gallon plastic container.
Suggestions? Thoughts?
I love my VP cans. Worth every penny :o
I store methanol in mine

Ethanol storage is a known problem with steel gas cans.
yea screw the metal cans, if you want a nice one I agree with these guys... go with VP
I just grab a Blue VP Metal can after a race weekend. Hell it's free and hold gas.

I like the kind that straps to the back of a military jeep. They are cool. Not practical but cool for that African safari that we occasionally take.

Here's another vote for the 5 gallon jugs.

I can resist everything but Pete's mom.
I'm going to need a gas can at the start of next race weekend to drain the gas that's in my bike. Anyone have one of these freebie blue cans lying around? You can even have it back with a few gallons of 93 in it if you want it for a mower or some similar not fussy item, or I can dispose of it. My trailer w/ my race bike was one of those broken into and I even though it's probably fine, I don't want to risk them having put something in the gas.
five gallon jugs .....*giggle*
Are you laughing because its pink? Thats awesome because it makes me laugh too!

If you get a plastic jug ala VP, get a colored one instead of the 'clear/white' ones, they block out more sunlight keeping your gas fresher for longer.
I have those plastic vp containers but I think the best is to 'store' in a metal container, keeps the gas fresher than sitting in the plastic containers. I try to keep the gas in my garage in the vp metal container in between riding sessions

I need me one of them there fancy VP metal cans. My gas can sucks, and most every new can I've found sucks as well. Meant to look around the trash bins at the end of last race weekend but forgot. Does VP give a deposit refund type deal for people to return them, or do people just toss them?
I run C12 in the tard Dan, I will give you my current can when it is empty.
I also use one for waste oil in my garage... when the oil drain pan starts getting full I pour it into the VP can which holds several drain pans worth. Then I take the VP can to autozone to dump when it's full.
As far as metal cans in general, I use the metal VP can for C12 just because that's what it comes in. I use one of the plastic VP jugs for the pump gas I run in my R6.

Hey Chris,
Thanks for the offer on your C12 can when it's empty. Appreciate it. Especially if VP won't give me one, but Dolla makes it sound like they will.
Just curious, why do you take your waste oil all the way to autozone instead of just dumping it in the oil waste station @ the track?
I know the plastic VP cans are great, they're just another $50 and I'm trying to keep the race budget low. A lot of non-race expenses in my life recently went way up... basically doubled. My disposable income is a lot less, at least for the rest of this season.
