does this sort of thing make a soft transmission on an older bike want to fail? (95 FZR600 w' 24,000 + miles)

    Re: Anyone go to NED?

how did i miss an opportunity to make fun of mike?

the best part of the first run was when we got back in line and Mike said :i got you at the line" i looked at my slip..."no you didnt" mike: "WTF!". ".65 liter RC51 eater" used to be under my name and when i removed it Mike actually thanked me...guess he didnt look in my sig

i still make fun of mike for it....its the only thing ive got on him
i think my best run was a 12.5. funny...when i went back w/ my girlfriend on my 1k i think i actually went slower. as for the 120mph rule....amanda made about 3-4 runs before they said no more...121mph on her GSXR 750. shed never been there before.

    Define "soft transmission".

Your bike is still a youngster. My 86 has 88,000+ on the gear box, and has never had a problem at the drags. Helped a few clutches wear out a bit quicker though, but since those are cheaper and easier to change than rear tires, who cares.

Since a Z1k went down with you guys (I'm guessing RS117?), what did he run? I'd love to bring my Z down but I have no clue what to expect as a baseline for trap or ET.

    Re: Anyone go to NED?

Those 60' times need some work. Not trying to be mean. #110's aren't horrible, but could use some work. #423's shouldn't even have bothered to get in line.
I typically pull mid 1.8s, high 1.7s when I'm really on my game, on my 86 GSXR.
Upper 1.8's when I'm there on my 93 GSX1100G. Stock chassis, no strapping or lowering on either one. You just have to go there more often. Practice makes better. That helps a lot being the first one into turn one! Waaay back in the day, at the old Bryar, if I pre-entered early enough,,, and I was on the front row, NOBODY beat me to the first turn.
{prod, and mod prod 3, 550s} Too bad I wasn't fast enough to stay there. D-ooh!

yeah, but even with your 400HP Neon..all that money and you would still lose to a 70hp bike.

Possibly not this year. I should be able to run low 12's with my current setup, 125+ trap speed.

But if I still get beat by a 70HP bike, I'll just bring my 125HP bike down.

It ain't that hard. I do an initial dump of the clutch, hard enough to feel the front end just start to lift, then FEED it the gas and fan the clutch enough to just float the front end. On my old gixxer, a good run is when I have to shift into second as soon as the clutch is all the way out, and I had no drop in rpm. RPMs are in the upper end of torque curve, so the engine won't want to bog. Your SV has enough poop to do that. If I can launch my GSX1100G shaft drive, land yacht, like that, you can do it with your SV. Actually, it was harder to launch than the gixxer. It didn't want to wheelie like the gixxer, but was just harder to get that much metal moving. It was easier to modulate floating the front end on the gixxer.
Please don't take what I'm telling you the wrong way. I sure as hell know that the bunch of you, could school the living shit out of me on the road course. Just consider it knowledge sharing, on something I don't totally suck at.

    Depends on the tree.

On an amateur tree, a perfect is .500 R/T. Pro tree is .400 R/T.

You can play with that depending on if you "deep stage" or "shallow stage"
    too.

Hehehe, I'm sure Oxx knows how to launch, he just doesn't really care cuz he's got the cornerspeed to back it up

I could get a perfect launch, I'm sure Oxx will still beat me to the apex of turn 1.... but I'm hopin to change that this year

Now I wanna bring my bikes up to the strip one night for shits & giggles.

    Re: Anyone go to NED?

Ok, I'm going to have a little fun here, but I think you folks can handle it.
I know this site leans{pun intended} towards spirited street riding and the roadcourse environment. That is my general preference too. Drag racing is just plain fun.
To me {snicker}, drag racing is like masterbating. It is fun, you can get it over with rather quickly, if needed. Emphasis on need, and it DOES fill a NEED. Street riding is like playing around with your loved one. It is indeed great fun,,, but it isn't quite there{foreplay??}. Roadracing/trackdays, etc, is like getting right down to it. All-righter, all-nighter,,, if you will. Nudge, Nudge, Wink, Wink and all that sort of thing.
All well and good! Well, ask yourself, those of you that are honest enough to do so, would you want to do without any of those I just mentioned. They are all important, and serve ummm,,,, sort of specific needs. Sure, you may want to do more of one, or another{one in particular!!}, but sometimes the circumstances just plain won't allow it. Soooo, one of the others would have to suffice.
THAT is why, on occasion, you will read me defending the drag racing end of sport riding.
I do it, and I'm not ashamed either. Goodness knows, you would want to be reasonbly good at it. It is more enjoyable that way. Practice makes perfect.

    There, wasn't that fun.
I'm going to turn 50 very shortly. I'm studying hard to be a dirty old man!!

    Re: Anyone go to NED?

I couldn't find my original timeslips but here is some of the info on my passes:

    Pass #2: No Burnout - no wheelie - R/T .971 - 10.899 @ 133.42 mph

    Pass #3: No Burnout - no wheelie - R/T .854 - 10.779 @ 133.82

Pass #4: Burnout - major wheelie in 1st, also wheelied in 2nd and 3rd, hit limiter in 2nd while paying more attention to keeping my front wheel down - R/T .841 - 11.041 @ 131.81

    4 things I've learned:

    1. My bike alone is responsible for my times. There is huge room for improvement in my hole shot. The bike is capable of quite a bit more. I have a lot of practicing to do!

    2. My reaction time sucks...

    3. Hot tire + very sticky surface + inexperienced dragracer = Huge wheelies.

    4. Half Squidly likes to wheelie too!

I'll definitely be going again in the near future. That was way too much fun!

Mike, did you intend to follow us East on 101 towards 95?
