So I am looking to race in the September USCRA Race at Loudon. I need to obtain my license so I have to attend a track day before the race so I have been told. Is there a certain track day event that I have to attend or can I attend any event? And is one event better for people who have never been on the track before than another? I have looked at the site sponsored track day events and can attend the August 3+4 TTD and none of the Boston Moto days will work. Any input that you guys have would be excellent.

do a track day before penguin school so you'll at least have a feel for the track. btw they do not teach you to "race". They teach the rules.
What are you going to be racing?
You need to do a Race school. Not a trackday.
Penguin is the only one around these parts.

Even though it's irrelevant in this guy's case, I think that a BostonMoto track day that Carl MacAllister is involved in might fit the bill as far as a USCRA license. That is, if Carl would be available for a little extra one-on-one. Carl would have to chime in on this one.

Penquin has "follow the leader" to show you the correct line and in the afternoon they have instructers available who will gladly help your racing technique/answer question/ one on one and Mccalister's school is a accepted way too. More bang though doing a rookie race on saturday and obtaining that. When I went to penquin I had plans to only race uscra and monday morning I was at a dealers door and bought a motard cause I found out vintage was not gonna satify my new found love with only 4 weekends. I am curious about something. On thursday's "test and tune" do you need a lrrs license or any race license? (cheap track time BTW)
Yeah, we definitely don't have anything to do with getting licensed.
We "hook" em on riding the track ... and then send them off to Penguin when they want to go racing.![]()
I am going to be racing Formula EX as well as Formula 100.
What date is that on? I didn't even know he had much to do with trackdays anymore because of his other job. I'll ask him next time he is around about some one-on-one.
So you are saying stay for the track day on Friday and then for the race also on Saturday? And I am starting off with USCRA because I like the relaxed environment and think it is better suited for my kind of learning style, plus everyone from my shop does USCRA so I don't have to worry about transportation.

Yes, thats how to do it. Do the rookie race on Saturday. You will be alright. It is a 3 lap follow the procedure and rules race. You will be fine on a ex500. Come to garage 22 north and I will be pitted with a instructor who will gladly answer any questions. He is there thursday on.

I am the guy who starts the shit on the WERA dungeon and got it shut down last November. I love telling Mongo to go to hell in a way that he looks forward to the trip. Johnny B knows.
I did Penguin and race. 1st time he's one of 4 bikes tipping into T1 or T9 he'd be better off knowing whats its like in advance and not turn into "that guy" that parks it into T1 and gets lapped by half the filed in his 1st race. Fair to assume we'd all rather new guys at least made it to fast group at a track day before becoming a potential hazard.
I am always amazed at folks that do the Penguin Race school and the Rookie race without any Track experience...
