I'll be doing my first track day at the end of the month with Boston Moto, and was reviewing the required helmet specs and realized that my current Snell Approved HJC is no longer valid 5/07 build date.
So I've been looking around at some reasonable priced options to replace it, I know the Shoei/Arai are top of the line but more than I am looking to spend right now. I came arcoss the Speed and Strength SS2000, it's Snell 2010 approved and made of fiberglass so it should meet the requirements, I also tried it on and it fit well.
Just wanted to check and see if any one had used one or had any thoughts on how it will hold up. Here's a link to it

I've been searching for a reasonably priced helmet. Both for myself as a spare and for my wife to learn riding. I'd like it to be snell 2010 and fiberglass. I found the HJC rps-10 is about 350MSRP and a little less online. The $250 scorpion EXO750 is ece dot and fiberglass but I don't know anywhere where I can go try them on. But the next step up for a suomy, shark or shoei seems reasonable at around 400 for any of them. I wish there was a local place I could try a bunch on.
I bought an EXO700. Don't know how different the 750 is. It is SNELL and DOT and the price was right... but I am underwhelmed.
I had an HJC CL14 before this and I think it was better.
No experience with the lids the OP is looking at.
nhbubba is the EXO700 Snell 2005 or 2010 approved, I saw that one but I thought it was only 2005
Mine is M2005. Date of manufacture is 04/2010. This was a clearance pick-up.
Thanks nhbubba those look good and you can't beat the price.
Does anyone know when they will require Snell2010? I don't want to buy a new helmet and then find out that its no good the next year later.
Who is 'they'?
Yes track oganizations Boston Moto, Tony's etc. or Loudon Race Series?
I just double checked and it looks like you guys are right it just says DOT/Snell doesn't mention if it has to be 2005 or 2010.
BTW that Scorpion exo-700 is looking better and better any one else have any experience with them?
I got an EX0700... Also underwhelmed but for the price it will work.www.sportbiketrackgear.com

I've never tried a Scorpion helmet, but you can get a EXO-700 for $109 or EXO-750 for $159 with free shipping on closeout at Motorcyclegear.com

Check out http://www.motorcyclecloseouts.com/s...rcycle+helmets . They have Bell RS-1 and Bell Star helmets for short money. Both have a 5-star SHARP rating and are snell 2010 rated. The RS-1 is half a pound lighter than the top of the line Arai Corsair V. As a comparison, the Corsair V gets 4-star SHARP rating.

I've got 3 EXO700's. Two for street, one for track, passes BoMO inspection. Nice lid for the $$, fit like a Shoei, Arai RX7. got mine at Revzilla.
My comparo here-

Most of the new scorpion series helmets are snell2010.
I just bought another Suomy Extreme. $270. Its an older one so that's why it was so cheap, manufactured in 2009. I figure I'll probably crash it anyway before it reaches its 5 years so why not save the money.

Fit is good. Weight is okay.. I haven't even looked up the weight compared to my old HJC, but it isn't uber heavy or anything.
My biggest beef is it's aero performance. I think the HJC was smoother and swear I have buffeting with the Scorpion that I did not with the HJC. My motorcycle is infamous for buffetting, but I never found it an issue until I switched helmets. And the Scorpion is decidedly noisier.
Also I think the airflow leaves a little something to be desired.
It is a fine helmet. And that price is very hard to walk away from (I couldn't!). I just feel like I could have (and should have) done better. My next may be a Shoei.

Please do not buy a Speed and Strength helmet. Or an Icon.
Get the Scorpion. You will be pleased. And we wont piss on you...

Thanks nhbubba, thats kind of what i figured but I'm sure it will still have better airflow than my current HJC which only has two tiny vents.
Right now its between the Scorpion EXO700 and the HJC FS-15. Anyone had or seen both that can compare?
Why not the CL16?
