hey everyone. so im finally going to leave stock gearing in the dust and go with something better for racing at loudon. i havent changed yet just due to laziness and stupidity but with the triple im not really sure what to go with. anyone run loundon with a triumph 675 have any advice on the gearing they find the best? thanks in advance for anything![]()
What is it currently stock?
Also same questions Studio X asked so we can send you in the right direction.
Stock gearing is almost always to tall for Loudon. In general bikes need -1 front +2 rear or something in that region. Your sig says you are an amateur, what kind of times are you running? -1/+2 is usually a good start for middleweight, unless the daytona needs something wildly different than other bikes.
If i recall for MW bikes you try to gear to almost redline 4th under the treehouse (you can hear fast guys like scotty actually hit the limiter under there). Also roughly top out 5th on the straight. Carry 3rd through all the slower corners, etc.

What year is it btw? looks like 06-12 was 16/47 stock. So paul is suggesting -1/+1.

Yeah I had -1/+3 on my 06 R6.
Maybe the extra torque and powerband of the 675 triple makes things a bit different.

Triumphs are all mid range. They do nothing in the upper rpm's and nothing in the low rpm's. The gears do seem to be too long and i could use more punch out of the corners but I don't want to be too high or I will just be shifting contently to try and keep the rpms down.
Well there's at least a starting point in this thread. One thing is for sure, stock is not right. Go with Paul's suggestion for starters if not one tooth larger on the rear. What lap times are you running on it?

Thanks CEO, and thanks Paul I will try your suggestion. I know I need more punch out of 2, and 12. Most bikes are pulling out of those turns on me pretty well. And I'm only just getting into 5th on the straight. As for times I'm a new AM running 22's with the stock gearing
I would Grab the -1 front for sure, then grab a couple rears so you can try them.. They're cheap. Also sometimes it's nice to have several sprockets if you are going to go to other tracks.
Cory Hildebrand is running triumphs as well. But he is running 8 seconds faster than you so maybe not using the same gearing that would be ideal for you. Not sure if he's on NESR

15/49 will put you into 6th gear on the front stretch at loudon. at a 1:22 15/48 would be the best starting point
