Mean to you ?
With a few things going on this year I thought it would be a good thing to have a discussion about just what it is WE are trying to get out of a track day .
Hopefully we and all the Track Day sponsor's can get the answers they are looking for and WE can figure out just what a trackday is for .
Usually practice for the race the next day.

It's the perfect chance to hone some skills that are essential for good riding anywhere. (street, track). and for me, it was a good test to see how badly I thought I might want to race. (it's all I fucking think about now)
Prolly an ex. My aspirations are bigger than my wallet.

Yup. Some new duy came up this summer and he was smoking fast on one. The first time he outbraked me so bad I thought I was witnessing a crash. But he did it race after race. Then my tard blew up and I did not see him anymore. Those ex's can fly.
A place to destroy tires, push your limits to improve your riding - hang with friends and meet new ones.
Basically - A track day is a place/time when i can ride like i really want to - legally.
It's the only place I can go and ride how I really want to. I just wish that wasn't limited to 20 minutes 5 times a day. I'd love to see an open track for a portion of the day so I can ride till I can't anymore.

it's where work never really feels like work
where I shall never get a speeding ticket
where a 20 minute session can put a smile on my face that can last an eternity
where the smell of fuel and rubber sooth the soul
a place to see old friends and meet new ones
a practical jokers paradise
an addiction, a love, an escape from reality all become one
A place to hang out with good friends and meet some new ones
A place to be myself - turning wrenches and throttles
A place to smile, laugh, and clown around
A place to get out my high speed tendencies
Pretty much in that order

Yup! Myself, I'm feeling too old to want to see a green flag waving in front of me. I still thoroughly enjoy riding aggressively though. When you get in that groove, or zone, when everything clicks, and the outside world dissappears for a few moments, priceless.

To help make sure others have a really good time
To help others learn how to ride better
To keep my skills sharp
To keep the thrill of going real fast around a corner alive.
Hell Ken, you kinda have to put it that way. I said similar things when I was an MSF instructor. Oh, back in the days when they were called "instructors", not "rider coaches"!
But, hey, I'm certainly with ya on that.
Interesting. Other people come first in Ken's list.
I go to track days for my own benefit, but at my last trackday I talked to someone at length about how to use a tight line in T1. Later in the day he came back all excited about how much he was able to improve his line there - I think he even pulled a new personal best after that. He's actually a bit faster than I am which goes to show we can all learn from each other.
Anyway...
That was easily the most fun and rewarding experience I ever had at the race track.
Are you laughing because its pink? Thats awesome because it makes me laugh too!
Going as fast as I can.
Mind you its not that fast ( I have no aspirations to race, passing other riders does not make me a better person nor does getting passed make me worse. Even on the track I ride my own ride) But its a place I can go as fast as I want, not worry about cars, cops etc and have fun,
been on a bike since 1984 and all types of riding are fun for me
There is no bad place to ride, there are only bad places to ride fast, track days are not one of them.
And if I ever needed the final proof of it last time out was it. the ride to the track was a disaster. First session out my bikes radiator got a hole in it. Even after that and up to the point a friend loaned me his bike to finish the day I was still happy and having fun watching, talking, helping others
