Crashed my 9R in Westford this morning. I was braking on a down hill for a left turn onto a side street and locked the front tire on some wet, oily pavement. Happened in an instant and I did not have time to react (I have locked the front wheels on bikes several times and was always able to recover, until today). I was going about 40MPH and the bike slid about 180 feet. I slid about 80 feet. My Aerostich suit did a wonderful job of keeping me unhurt and is only mildly abraded; requiring nothing in terms of repairs. My helmet never hit the ground. My bike has cosmetic damage but is still rideable. Is supect the oily pavement prevented lots of sliding damage to me and the bike. A police officer saw me sliding down the road (not sure if she actaully saw me go down) and stopped to help. She was quite surprised and pleased that I was unhurt. She was pleasant and friendly and never hinted that I was doing anything wrong. Within 10 minutes I was back on the bike and on my way to work. Never got an adrenaline rush, which seems odd to me. It was like a dream.
Riding gear works. I can say that for sure now.
Ouch, sorry to hear that Dave. Glad you're okSounds like you and the bike made quite the long slide, amazing that you were mostly unhurt after that, definitely a case for good gear. Even more incredible the bike was still rideable, you didn't even lose a peg?
Sorry to hear that Dave, but I'm glad you were able to brush yourself off and continue on your way.
I know whatcha mean about no adrenaline rush - falls like that happen so fast there's not a whole lot of time to get excited before you hit the pavement.
Glad to hear you are OK.
Two thumbs up for Aerostich! Aren't you glad you weren't wearing jeans?
Did the cop try to right you a ticket?
Ben
Scraped the peg a little. Scraped the clutch lever but broke nothing except the rear fender and that is just a minor crack where the turn signal is attached. Even the mirror just folded up without breaking. The engine cover is well worn down but not leaking. It has these cast nubs that are apparently designed to be ablative in a crash. They are completely gone.
Nope, she was quite nice and never even mentioned any law breaking on my part. The truth is, I wasn't doing anything crazy or aggressive and my speed was not excessive. She did compliment me on the effectiveness of my gear and filled out an accident report. The report is blank except that for the parts about who was in the accident and where it happened.Originally posted by benSV

If I was in jeans, I'd still be in the ER for sure.
Streets suck.
Good job keeping it together and wearing you gear!

Gotta be honest here. Wasn't a rider for all of those 16 years. Took a long break from riding in between. Been around the block a few times though.Originally posted by Mystery Squid

Bummer dude!
Does that really qualify as as crash though?
You didn't break nothing, you rode to work (Not home!) and didn't even mess up your stich.
Sounds like "An incident" more than anything else!
Glad you're A.O.K.!!!

From my own personal experience, "Lady Cop" and "Hot" are mutually exclusive terms. Truth is, her looks were the last thing on my mind and she may have been stunning, I can't recall.
