I’ve got a buddy who wants to get out of quads and into street bikes. He’s got a Yamaha Banshee that’s all done up. Bored .30 over, FMF exhaust, all new tires, powdercoated frame, and basically every mod you can do to a banshee is done. Thing’s pretty nice. He is on the fence between trying to use it as a trade-in/down payment and trying to sell it privately. I’d suggest he try to do a private trade but he wants to finance the balance on the new bike. Any of the shop guys on here take quads in trade? Any input for me to relay to him, from anyone? I’m thinking he’ll want something fairly inexpensive but still new enough to look cool and modern, 600ish. Maybe 4-5K range. I know where he could find a Duc supersport that I have been lusting after (02, 750, $3500) but I’d like him to live, so I’m going to avoid that suggestion as a first bike. Too bad, because I’d really like him to get it so I could ride it (and maybe track day it).
Discuss. Thanks.
I don't think the Duc 750 would be a terrible first bike.![]()

Duc 750s are milder than current 620s or 695s and 696s, they make GREAT starter bikes.
My first bike was an 87 Ninja 750. An 02 Duc 750 shouldn't be much different, right? I'll have to ask the guys at the shop if they'd want his quad in trade. Pretty sure they would, they sell used quads. Thing is it's a small private shop, not a dealership, not sure if they could finance the rest for him. Also, if he gets that i'm going to need to set aside his purchase price in case I bin it on him, as well as up my life insurance, because I'm going to want to ride it on the track.

He'd want more than it's worth to a dealer. Sell it Craigslist and use the cash for a deposit. '05 banshee trades between $1630 and $1820 retail average is $2790 .
Sweet, thanks Sheppo!
he could swing it by the new bike shop in somersworth in front of "The Works" called Somersworth Cycle, they have a bunch of quads and dirt bikes out front, they'll probably sell it for him
His Banshee ain't worth shit as a trade...![]()

The shop I work for (Motoconsult) takes trades..and would take the Banshee. But we are also in CT.

Aint worth anything anywhere.....
He needs to part the thing out, then trade it in stock. Aftermarket mods won't add anything to a trade. Maybe in a private sale they will add to the value if you have some kid buying it, but any experience buyer will not pay more for things like a powder coated frame.
If he has things like exhaust, a few sets of wheels, front bumpers, grab bars, nerf bars, handle bars, suspension....all that stuff will sell on ebay REAL fast.
The fact that it is bored over, at least to me, just shows me that its a normal 2-stroke, and has needed a few top-ends in its lifetime, and does not add any value to the quad.
Also, you acn pick up BRAND NEW left over raptors for less than 4 grand now. Id be surprised if a dealer in the New England would give 1500 for the Banshee, those thigns are useless anywhere but a sand dune.
If he has a lot of mods and stock parts, and can make a grand selling the aftermarket parts off, he should then take the quad in as a trade down on a bike. Only way i see him getting at least 2k on the trade is if he is looking at purchasing a brand new bike, not something for the 4-5k range.

same as what everyone else said, he wont get anything for it, but if he has to, cycles 128 takes quads, i assume plaistow powersports would too then

Thanks everyone. I'll advise him to try the craigslist route. I'm sure parting it out could bring in some dough, but I doubt he'll want to go that route. I'll still mention it. Otherwise, craigslist it is.
As long as he kept the stock parts....which i dont see why he wouldn't...parting it out is really easy. He can remove all the parts and put on the stock stuff, trade the quad in, then sell the parts as fast or as slow as he wants.
Now if he didn't keep the stock stuff....now he has to deal with finding people to trade stock stuff + cash for the aftermarket parts, which is a lot more work, and he can't trade it in until he has the quad all back together.

Good point. No idea if he has the stock parts, or how much of the mods he did himself vs. how he got it. I'll mention that to him, and suggest swapping anything he can back to stock if he's going to trade it. Again, thanks.

Well I wouldn't go as far to say they are useless anywhere!
They are a very good and reliable trail quad believe it or not. That twin unlike most 2-smokes could be lugged at low rpms all day long in the woods, and the extra power would always be on tap when needed. I trail rode Banshee's from the early 90's up until 02 or 03?
Like all other models that are no longer made, the value stays even for a year or so, then goes up. Honda 250R is a perfect example, they sell for more now being 20 years old than they did new.
There's 2 things against trading in a Banshee now...
The biggest thing against trading in/selling any quad nowadays is the limited places to ride![]()
