So I replaced the brake lever.
So I take the bike for a quick ride this afternoon.
So I dont even get 4 blocks away from my house when I get pulled over for going 35mph in a 25mph. $100.00 ticket. Hot. I *heart* Cambridge Police.
Does anyone know how much insurance rates go up per ticket in MA?

Fight that shit. You were going 25. Your first appeal they'll try to lower the fine, but you still pay the increase in insurance. Second appeal is in front of the actual cop.

The ramifications of this ticket are just starting to set in. I have a negative income right now becuase I quit work and went back to school. My budget is super-tight. I have to check in with my insurance agent next week to see how much this is going to raise my annual rate. If it is a significant amount, I may have to sell the bike and hold off on riding untill school is over & I have a normal job again...which I am NOT happy about. Man...this fucking blows. How much is a used EX250? A less expensive bike to maintain for the next two years would be better than nothing at all.

dude... don't sell your bike, if worst comes to worst & you don't wanna tempt yourself, just take it off the road & store it somewhere safe...... or sell it to me for 10 bucks, i'll hold it for ya & sell it back to ya for 15
one ticket isn't gonna up your insurance THAT much

Don't call ur insurance company unless it is written in your policy that you must. Let them find out about it through their own channels.
chris you gotta fight that. there is a very good chance you get off if you do. Plus, if you fight it, and push off the court date once, and then lose its going to be many months before it happens and only then is there a chace your insurace can catch it. soo if you play it right you can keep it away until after riding season.![]()
well, I think me and Rikard just figured out a really good option / idea. I've been missing my R6 (well, somewhat missing it...the R1 rocks). Rikard is in the UK / Sweden for the summer and was gonna sell his R6. So now the plan looks like this:
(1) I sell the R1, thus no longer making payments on it.
(2) Rikard puts me on his R6 policy over the summer. His bike is paid off.
(3) I get to ride / look-after the R6 while he is away, and he still has a bike when he gets back that has been upkept.
(4) I pay for insurance on the R6.
(5) I get a bike to ride, and save money at the same time cuase I no longer have to make payments on the R1.
everyone wins
BTW, I heard that R6's and Louden go well together. Can someone confirm?![]()

Man, that's weak sauce.
I like the R6 idea, though.
I love liter bikes, but most dudes (myself included 110%) can't even come close to riding a 600CC to it's limits on a track, let alone on the street. I once ditched all the streetbikes and rode a KLR for a while... loved every minute of it. It'd be tough to let that R1 go, but you can easily have as much fun on Rikard's R6 (IMHO)
1. Appeal the ticket, PM me if you need pointers on what to do, I've appealed many many tickets with great success. I got pulled over the other day, 45 in a 30 and no turn signal while changing lanes twice, I apologized for speeding and driving like an idiot, written warning...
2. Don't sell the bike. The insurance on my Warrior was $1500 with $500 deductibles, I put it at $1000 deductible and it lowered my insurance $400 down to $1100. Well worth having a $1000 deductible, doesn't make sense to pay $400 each year to gain $500 if it's stolen or wrecked...5 years you pay an extra $2000 to save $500 if you go down or someone borrows it...check with your insurance company...

I cannot believe no one has mentioned this yet...Chris, you are going to effing law school and you are worried so much about this ticket! Don't be a fool, do your research and practice what you are going to school for. Win the case, then sell the R1 and ride the R6. A win win

hmmm...so what purpose would that serve? the reason for taking a bike off the road is so that you don't have to pay insurance. the company holding the loan requires full coverage on the bike for the period of the loan, therefore his hands are tied......he has to suck it up and pay higher insurance, or sell the bike.Originally posted by Piper33U

if you meant to not tell the bank holding the loan, that won't work as the insurance company has them listed as a lienholder and won't remove coverage without their permission....i just paid off my bike and have to fax a copy of my title to my insurance agent (who is my mom) in order to remove some of the extras that the bank required...
I think what piper was saying is do not call to ask the insurance agent any questions about the ticket...let them find out about the ticket which can be months if he fights it. Therefore giving him time to ride or sell the bike and not have an increase in insurance.

I took my bike off the road and put it in storage each of the winters ive had it. I called the bank and sent over a letter explaning the situation and they let me drop off almost all of the coverages while it was off the road. They send me a letter to give to my insurace agent, and it works out very well.Originally posted by taylor
