Commuting to work on the duke 690. 5iles of I 93 then slow crawl for a mile then side streets thru Summerville to Kendall Square.
Have my dragging jeans from 20 years ago. Way too loose due to weigh loss ( I was a fat fuck I guess)
What's skinny on riding jeans for a regular " fit". Not too baggy , not skinny . I wear my Audi race boots, the jeans will be ditched at work for work "jeans". I don't wear armor currently, it's not spirited riding I'll be doing.
Seems like there is a whole new rating system for jean protection. Ideally looking for the the protective fiber woven into the jean fiber which is opposite of the dragging jeans which have keblar patches. I'd be wearing them in summer so it seems that 'd be cooler for air flow?
Any insights from you fine gentlemen? On how they fit run large / small etc etc...

Since you’re ditching the riding jeans once you get to work, why not just a pair of zip-up overpants over your “work” jeans?
Typically, most “riding jeans” are a compromise between protection and wanting to look casual when wearing them after you get off the bike

Fair point .... I'm also cheap. I'd wear these jeans on my weekend jaunts around the burbs. I do mean jaunts. Just light exploring, nothing knee d4agging. Or close to it
So I'd like them to do double duty.

Here's my initial impression review of the now discontinued Reax 215 jeans:
I find them to be stiffer and noticeably less breathable than your standard fashion jeans due to the armor and the lining. They don't flap around at the cuffs like my regular jeans do. They are cut long enough that in the riding position, my ankles are not exposed, but if I am not wearing shoes, I am definitely walking around on the cuffs. The front pockets are a little shallow, if you had one of the larger phones available it would barely fit.
If first impressions are anything to go on as far as safety goes, I'd put them squarely in between fashion jeans and leathers. I definitely don't ever want to crash again in regular jeans and I feel like in leathers I don't want to, but I could. In these jeans I don't want to and I probably should not invite it, if that makes sense.
Here's my follow-up thoughts after riding in them yesterday for 480 miles:
Took a while to get the knee armor placement just right. The CE2 SAS-TEC armor has a thin velcro strip that mates with an equally narrow strip, so side to side adjustment is less than ideal. The pocket for the armor opens at the top so its easy to accidentally stick your foot into the pocket when donning the jeans. Comfortable in yesterday's 55-80 temps. Cuffs just large enough to fit over my Sidi Cobra boots.
To qualify these thoughts, I bought the jeans black Friday 2022, first wore them July 2023, and probably haven't chosen to wear them riding more than a handful of times. Commuting I just wear work pants. Riding for the day, I'm probably choosing the leathers. I just don't ride around for the sake of riding around like I used to. I could choose to ride in them more often, I suppose, I just don't.

The Rev'it MOTO 2 jeans and Airwave pants are essentially the same price.
I did the commuting thing for years and would chooses the Airwave pants over my normal work pants 100%.
I'm never worried about the "spiritedness" of my riding, I'm planning for the mindlessness of those around me.
I'm more inclined to ride in just normal jeans when I'm riding in more rurla areas where traffic isn't a concern. Commuting is warfare.

When I was commuting on the RC51 from Natick to Worcester on 9 West, it was warfare. 100% offensive riding. It was dangerous, but it was so dangerous I was always on my toes, head on a swivel, where it would be hard for someone to surprise me. Like, "Hey, they guy is DEFINITELY going to cut me off", then they would, saw it coming a mile away.
I was going to suggest Fire Hose jeans but I have just learned that they are no longer the quality they used to be

Most epic commuting gear is the aerostitch roadcrafter onesie. Step in, zip up, go. Easiest thing to wear to the office. I have riding jeans (icon I think) and they are great. But I would not want to walk around wearing pants with pads in them all day long.

I got the Rev'it! Austin jeans. Look at the two letters - they mean different things like SlimFit or TrueFit etc.... The rev'it! jeans look great, offer terrific protection, the soft armor is thin and super comfortable, and when on sale on motorcyclegear.com a true bargain. I am very very happy with my Rev'it! jeans. They are more European looking which may work well for you now that you lost weight. I once had a very slow speed get off with Shift jeans (supposedly armored) and there was a hole that went to my knee. I was not impressed.

When I commuted I went with over pants too. Much more comfortable and easy to simply take off at my desk and be ready for work.

I suggest Fire hose jeans, If good ones are still around.
There are different grades of Duluth Fire hose pants available. Personally I do not like the "Duluthflex fire hose" versions of them and stick with the "original fire hose" version. Even within that I have heard that the original fire hose pants are not quite what they used to be. There is a "Duluthflex fire hose HD" that might have doubled up sections where it would be helpful, might be worth looking at them to see.
I don't commute but if I did, yea I'd ride with something over my office pants that you can easily ditch once you're at work.

I used to have draggin jeans back in the day since that was really the only option then. I remember the fit was stupid baggy.
At the risk of being 'that guy', I will never stop recommending that people spend the money on armored Vanson sportrider pants that fit, and just change out of them when they get to work. Especially since you wear race boots.
Comfortable. Look awesome. Will last basically forever if your weight isn't still fluctuating.

I gave away my riding jeans, never used 'em. Majority of the time I'm reaching for some mesh textile riding pants with rain and thermal liners. Hot: no liners. Cool, possibly wet: rain liner. Really cold/wet: rain & thermal liners.
I went with some street and steel riding jeans from Revzilla for about 120$
better fit than the dragging jeans, better armor that wont move around.
Little long but that's ok i'm not hanging out in them. good for weather these days with some thermals. Ona hot summer day not the best for commuting I'm thinking
