Only owned one briefly but used Castrol Power 1 V-Twin 4T 20W-50. It is pretty widely available.

Moot point until my next engine oil change. My oil & lubes are in, so I'm good for now. May try Rotella next time, who knows?

Thinner oils run cooler. Highly speculative, but it's possible a stout synthetic 40 wt runs cooler and still offer better protection then a dino 50 wt. It would be more viscosity stable at higher temps as well. Better NOACK numbers, probably better HT/HS numbers as well. Impossible to prove without "data" but cars speccing 5W or 10W-30 for years suddenly saying a 20wt is okay are good examples. Everyone thought Ford trucks would blow up running 5W-20 but they still went the distance on them.
There is way more to oil then viscosity and thicker is not always better.
There very well might be oil analysis results showing stout 40 wts are perfectly safe in these motors, but I haven't looked for them.

Bubs, I read zero replies in this thread. For the many years I owned my Buell XB9S (Sportster motor), I ran Rotella whatever-correct-viscosity, changed it every ~3K miles, and had no troubles. I owned that Buell ~ 3 years offhand, with nary an issue.

Well that was different. Engine, transmission & primary all done with shiny new Klotz. Still wrapping my head around having to do THREE different points for lubrication though. Odd, but whatever...
Supposedly, when I bought it from the dealership at 5000 miles they did a full servicing with would have included those that I had just done. I'm beginning to REALLY doubt it. Very low engine & trans oil. And whichever monkey put the oil filter on and replaced the screws on the clutch (derby) cover was a fuckin' idiot. I don't know how they didn't snap the derby cover screws. I had to turn one into a flat head screw to get it out (originally Torx). I'll be ordering new ones by week's end. I'm guessing they used foot lbs instead of INCH pounds when tightening.
My buddy fab'd a tool for getting stubborn oil filters off. Thank goodness! Again, whoever installed that is a fuckin' moron. I got the K&N replacement with the 17MM nut on the end for easy removal. I didn't really have a problem with getting oil everywhere. I just made a chute from a cardboard box & placed it under the filter as I removed it. Barely a drop. I made a similar chute for filling the primary.
I like that everything other than the primary was measured on it's side stand and everything was drained on it's side stand. By the way - do 'they' really call them jiffy stands? WTF is up with that?
All in all, it only took a couple hours. Would have been less if I didn't fuck around so much. Each time I pulled a drain plug, I'd grab a beer and take a couple puffs to make sure everything was drained thoroughly. I've never had a bike where I had to change more than one lube areas. Well, except the Raptor I guess. But that's just two drain points for the same oil. Still very odd to me, but it is what it is.
I'll probably poke around on Amazon for one of those primary fillers and a form-a-funnel that can be used under the oil filter. The cardboard worked fine, but I'd rather just grab these next time and go at it.
We'll see how the bike & I like the Klotz. I only managed a 5 mile ride home from my buddy's when all was said & done. At the very least, it smells really good!

Yes on all counts.
Honestly the worst part about the Harley in my mind is the use of SAE fastners. This is the 21st century for crikes sakes! And then the front end is mostly metric anyway. Dumb.
The multiple oil fills is the runner up. It is vaguely dirt-bike like, although as you point out it is different fluids in different components. And honestly it isn't that big of a deal.
Every time I check the oil I am reminded at how nice, chunky and overbuilt the oil cap and dip stick are. Would I rather a japanese style sight glass instead? Maybe. Does the dip stick with reading instructions STAMPED ON IT work for me? Yep.
The "jiffy" thing is weird. I will never say that word outloud in reference to a side or kick-stand.

Yeah, I meant to mention that too. The fancy, over engineered dip sticks were well marked & all. But man, a site window would be SO much better.
And no. I'll never refer to the side stand as "the jiffy stand".
My drain plugs were all metric, BTW. The derby cover was Torx.

I've only managed a few hundred miles since, but everything seems ducky. I haven't really noticed a difference other than the transmission definitely feels & sounds smoother. And every now & then when I get a whiff of the Klotz and all is well.

I'll just point out that there will be some people at the track this weekend who will change tires rather inexpensivly.
Of course they will have to be off the bike and you'll need to pay the entry fee.
I just sold my "spare" set of wheels for the old bike. Buying a new spare set for the new one.
