yes, but only at inspection stations
that inspection station performed the test incorrectly. the test is at idle now. 92db at idle regardless of cylinders.
the up side of this test is that it is nearly impossible for the police to do a roadside test to see if you are in violation of this law. there are just too many testing stipulations
When I start my KTM in the morning, rules are broken. Its inevitable...

He did both. He did the 92 dB at idle as well as the 100 dB at 5k.
He had the RSA printed out, which my quick search revealed (http://www.gencourt.state.nh.us/rsa/...6/266-59-a.htm).
Pressure Levels of Stationary On-Highway Motorcycles'':
(a) For all motorcycles, 92 decibels while the engine is operating at idle speed; or
(b) For motorcycles with less than 3 or more than 4 cylinders, 96 decibels while the engine is operating at 2,000 revolutions per minute or 75 percent of maximum engine speed, whichever is less; or
(c) For 3 and 4 cylinder motorcycles, 100 decibels while the engine is operating at 5,000 revolutions per minute or 75 percent of maximum engine speed, whichever is less.
Not arguing with you at all Oxx. You know way more about this than I do. He did indicate that it was too confusing to actually know what to do as well.
this is the KEY word here. 92Db at idle. if your bike fails that then the RPM test is a follow up. if it passes the RPM test after failing the idle test then you pass. if you pass the idle test then no further testing is required. they couldve worded it better, but thats how the state explained it to us when they came through to tell us the new law. he mustve been out sick that day

I actually had a cop pull me over once, dont remember where, because he said my bike was too loud... my bike still has the full factory exhaust on it!! sounded to me like a really absured excuse for a stop even if he did just wanna make sure I hadnt been drinking etc. damn cops trying to manufacture probable cause... :/

I don't condone bouncing off the rev limiter or not throttling down around town. Ive own loud bike and loud cars/trucks. Never had an issue or a ticket, but I don't care to be profiled. I am sure it wont stick, It's been tried in other towns and didn't work.
I've been pulled over because it sounded like I was going fast...
I was going pretty good, downshifted to slow down for a spot the cops sit at (and one was there) and got pulled because It sounded like I was going too fast before he saw me.
So NH stopped doing the roadside tests @ Hampton Beach and the sort with this 'new' law?! They used to be camped out. IIRC Hampton PD had Db meters issued to more people than they did side arms.
I never got tested myself. But I saw it plenty of times and know a couple people who were tested.
I live in a small residential area about a mile from a bike bar. 2am fly throughs with the revs pegged so the asshats can hear their exhaust bounce off the houses gets old. Ticket'em all....
Did you grit your teeth and try to look like Clint Fuckin' Eastwood?
Or did you lisp it all hangfisted like a fuckin' flower?
For some reason Dickinson's just doesn't exist for me. I don't know why. I know it's there every time I drive by it, but when I need something I never even consider the place. The guy I used to use in Pembroke was like that, but he now works at (or at least he did last time I was in there) National Powersports.
I went to that guy on 107, just west of 28. Some random guy with a shop and a sign that says Motorcycle Inspections..
Weird. The inspection guideline for Massachusetts is 'no louder than originally equipped'--which is usually pretty obvious on a car--but then there's some decibel test outlined in the MGL, but I doubt any inspection station has the equipment.
What's the difference between a bolt and a screw?
First you screw, then you bolt.
Newport, RI and the East Side of Providence have signs posted regarding straight pipe noise fines. I know that Newport cops will pull you over for it, and the fine ain't cheap. I used to love hearing open pipes when I was younger. Now it makes me wince, especially with harleys. I guess it's because it used to be a novelty and now everyone wants to be heard for whatever reason. In this case we riders are our own worst enemies.
I get my bike checked at a Harley dealer. He looks at it, goes "Jap bike huh?" and tosses me out with a new sticker. Its great. Barely looks at it...don't think he wants to touch it.

Yeah, yeah. V-rod.. But my funnie was still a funnie.
yes, we are not talking about those who genetically engineered the fire breathing beast, just the technician who has to make it well, or in this case give it a clean bill of health
..or throw parts at it.
