...Fathers day weekend during practice for the Superbike race at NHIS. Some of you guys may have heard of him, his name's Aaron Clark (Clarkie) and he races for Seacoast Sport Cycles here in Derry. He also had that Tuono featured in CW a few months back and has a Mille featured in a sidebar article in this months Sport Rider Magazine. He's also a former Aprilia Cup Champion.
Anyhoo, he lost it coming out of turn seven. He wound up smacking the tire wall and then the bike hit him in the back wedging him between it and the tire barrier. The bike (which coincidentally, was the one in SR this month) was completely destroyed and he broke his back in four places but he's already back to work, albeit in a brace. He won't be back on a bike till next spring but it's a small price to pay since It's a miracle that he wasn't crippled or killed and had he not been wearing a good back protector he just might have been. Just goes to show you what a difference quality kit can make.
It's funny though, I stopped into the shop just to say hi and find out if he had finally gotten the Mille back from the clutches of Sport Rider. The conversation went something like this:
Me: What's up man, did you get your Mille back from Kunitsugu yet?
Clarkie: (w/ thick Aussie/Kiwi accent) Yeah I did and then I promptly destroyed it.
Me: No shyt? WTF happened?
Clarkie: I crashed hard coming out of turn seven and ended up in the tire barrier with the bike right on top of me.
Me: Lots of damage?
Clarkie: Oh yeah it was destroyed. We parted it out.
Me: Well that's about a bitch but at least you came out of it okay.
Clarkie: (lifts shirt to reveal massive upper-body cast) Not really I kinda broke my back in four places...

With that in mind, who makes what you (everyone here) would call the best back protector? I will be getting one and would like to know what you think.
Brand and model specific would be nice too![]()

Does Aaron work at Seacoast Sport Cycle? His description sounds familiar. If its the guy I'm thinking of, he's cool shit. I spent a good chunk of time with him at Sport Cycle talking about the 04 Mille and when I went in again to buy some gloves he picked on me for riding a Monster instead of a Tuono. Glad to hear that he's feeling better enough to be back to work.
oh shit dude... i'm so glad he's ok & his spirits are up...
so what was the make/model of that back protector?![]()

On another note, Seacoast is like that, a group of guys who actually remember there customers names. Even if you didnt buy a brand new bike.
Get well soon bro!!
