Mass lawmakers are looking to implement new regulations pertaining to Off-road vehicles and snowmobiles. It's a very extensive bill that sets limits on age of use (no child under 10 may operate), engine size, private sale of ORV's, etc.
There are 2 public hearings. One on May 11 and one on May 12. Here is the info on the hearings:

Didn't they already ban kids under 14 from riding?

Glad I left!!! This is what they're worried about right now? wtf...
good thing was, it didn't look like it included dirtbikes (for now).
cliff notes:
under 10 - no go
10 to 14 - in race or race practice, run by sanctioned, approved facilitator
14 to 18 - at will, with safety course credentials
18 + - at will, within limits explicitly detailed (bleh)
I think the main problem with this is the under 10 deal... under 10 should be approved while accompanied by an adult 18 or older. With that in place, I don't see an issue.
Yea, I thought CT was bad.....
10 to 14 being allowed to race is an improvement over the current law isn't it?
No. There is not age restriction for racing at this point. It will be a problem for southwick, middleborough, etc with the 50, 60, and 80 classes.
When I have kids, I'm handing down my '84 Z-50 that I got for my 7th birthday. I don't care what any lawmaker says.
I hate goverment more everyday.......Friggin assholes who think that public service is getting elected. I hate them with a vengence.
This is what happens when people get involved with things they know nothing about after they suffer a loss. This bill is directly related to an instance of bad parenting which resulted in the death of a 8-10yo boy.
Cliffs: kid went over a friends house, boys hopped on atvs, kid with no experience whatsoever flips a rappy on top of himself and dies. Parents make bill so no kids can ride.

Touché.
I hope they don't throw my ass in the clink, or take my license away when my daughter starts riding before the legal age.

Buy your own land, block any road views and put a gate up at the driveway! Sorry, I'm not home, come back another time![]()

Even on your on property in Massachusetts you are required by law to have a notarized permission slip allowing yourself to be using the property to ride a dirtbike. These laws are actually on the books. You face fortfeiting the bike if the police followed the letter of the law. Its unbelievable. Eff government and we can run our own lives thank you.
