Ok, maybe not all bad, but it was time for a motorcycle related project. Picked up this piece of awesomeness today, along with boxes of parts.
Let the cleaning begin..
Certainly has some cool parts on it
It is however missing some important and very expensive parts. Parts that are no longer available.. should be a fun one.

Wow!!! I was going to ask “why”, but the model reveal says it all

Well, it's no school bus......
Congrats, guessing this one will be a keeper. Maybe try a little AI search for extra help tracking the parts down...
Assuming this will be a track build? You should link up with Adam Kells for some go-fast parts. Rear subframe, fairing stay, other fairing mounts, rear sets, damper mount. His fab work is looking really good these days, check out his instagram.
I went to MMI I know what Im doing here chief
Also, congrats! I got real busy spending your money on a cool track build![]()

Damn. Can't wait to see what the hell you have in store for this thing!

While the bike has lots of YEC parts, it’s not going to be a track bike build. My idea is an original “hopped up” R7. I also plan to keep the bike for several years, track bikes being peanuts in value compared to original spec bikes. Keep in mind, this is a 1 year homologation special.

Any idea on which ecu kit you have in it? Read up on these mythical creatures and saw there are three ecu kits that range from 100 to 160 ponies. Such a cool bike
Can we rename this to best decisions
When I had my first R7 back in 2000, I had a stage 1 “hop up” kit in it, it was the stock ECU. With the kit installed, and a full Akrapovic exhaust system, mine made 135 Hp on the dyno.
This one appears to have a stage 2 at least, just going by the extra parts included. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was the stage 3. Once I have time to take some things apart, I’ll be able to check the part numbers and see what ECU is in it.

Impressive and if anyone here was going to bring one back to life, It’s you who will do it right.

Found this little switch while digging into the boxes of parts. It’s part of the YEC race kit.
I also have the original wheels in a box, tho nothing special about them, they are the same part numbers as the 1999 R1. What’s the deal with carbon wheels, and life span? I’m hearing they age out, but it is a combination of years and use, or just years. These are around 15 years old, but have never been used.
I spent quite a bit of time today going through what came in boxes, and what’s missing on the bike. There are 3 major parts I need to make the bike run, tho the full parts list for a total restoration is extensive. It’ll take some leg work and luck for sure, it could be years to find everything.
To make it run, I need an air box, the 4 gaskets that go between the throttle bodies and spray injectors, and a coolant tube for the top of the engine. All of those items, are discontinued and unavailable.
Cosmetics, it’s missing the entire OEM tail section and seat, missing the front fender, mirrors, turn signals, chain guard, and miscellaneous fasteners.
Mechanically other than the engine, missing a chain, missing front brake master/lines/calipers/pads, hand grips, the shift rod, starter relay, and keys.
I’ll probably keep an eye out for a few other original parts as they come available, the super bike radiator is a trick part, but there’s no room for a fan and it seems like I’d have to modify the original body work to fit. I do have the stock radiators, but they were also modified at some point.

Really cool bike. Check across the big pond for parts, the EU guys tend to have stuff that didn't make it here and have more of it or they just keep the cool stuff better than us yanks. Good luck. love to see it when its finished.
