Had a motorcycle day. Got out on the speed triple for a ride (65 degrees down here) and then worked on the SV (mounted tires with fresh rubber, changed the oil, bled the brakes, fooled with the carbs, etc).
By evening I was ready for a ride. Grabbed my helmet and gloves and jumped on.....pulled onto the mostly empy street and opened her up. Felt pretty good.
When I got to the first street light (just turning yellow) I decided to test out the brakes a little more. First pull, they felt good. Second, harder pull........and I was on my ass sliding toward the intersection.
The bike luckily ran into the curb and and avoided sliding into the intersection. I tore up my jeans and sweater, but also stopped in time.
Things I learned
1. Always double check that the tires don't have brake fluid on them (Fuck, somehow I got some on the rear tire, but I didn't notice. I think that was the reason I went down. I guess it could have been the new/cold tires and heavy braking, but I doubt it. Not sure exactly what happened, but I don't think I tucked the front, more like the rear got squirrly, but I'm just not sure).
2. It is probably a good idea to wear some gear even when just "testing" out the bike.
3. Giving the brakes a hard test....good idea, ....but don't do it at a location where you actually have to stop.
4. If you are going to crash, 1/4 mile from the house is a decent location. Getting home was easy.

LOL.............that sucks. Easy on the brakes grasshopper.
At least you are OK!

Usual stuff: bunch of scratches (tail mostly), bent/worn rear set/shifter/foot peg, destroyed mirror, worn/bent spool. The frame sliders worked, the engine wasn't touched.
Easy to fix. I don't care about scratches on the SV (bought it for track and street). Plus, only the tail won't be 100% within a couple of weeks. I'd be super upset if it was the Triple

+1 Sliders are worth their weight in platinum on a SV.
Mine got tested again last week.

Stupid ass mistake on my part ... was getting off 153 on to Lee Highway in Chattanooga and looked to my right where there was a cop with full flashing lights on (real hard to ignore) managing a minor bumper bender accident scene.
I looked back in front of me and that stupid car in front of me had come to a stop!So the stupid bike rider (moi) jams on the front brake and tucked that front wheel in while I was going under 10 mph.
Scratched metal, rear passenger pegs stripped from subframe ... thats all I found since. Removed the forks and checked them if they were tweaked ... they are OK.
Weather down here is like NH during Oct- Nov. One can ride year round. Just have to watch for ice on shady side of mountains.
I am planning to do the Dragon next weekend .. no cops this time of year and very low traffic. Tires will be cold so I will be taking it easy.

SVs crash well.
When I start my KTM in the morning, rules are broken. Its inevitable...

:-( hope i never find out, but yeah, i guess that's sort of reassuring.
sorry to hear about it, wookie, but glad it seemed to have turned out relatively minor -- not something you wanna find out on the highway when you're grabbing brake for all your worth behind a semi carrying poison-tipped spikes and/or revving chainsaws
hurray, strikethrough!

At least it was more gentle than your track antics. that poor cbr is destined for the scrap yard.
sounds like you and the sv are a little more resilient

Glad you O.K. Wookie.
