I used a pair of regular work boots for the MSF BRC class, but I want to buy something that offers more protection and is comfortable in warmer weather riding.
I am looking for a mid-lenth traditional looking boot (with sizing that runs a wider width) that offers dedicated ankle and foot protection. I like some of the Icon boots, but I'm not sure how they stack up against others in my price range.
Ideally I would like to spend between $125-$150, but would go slightly higher.
Any suggestions?
Daytona brand.
That's what I was wondering.
My first pair of boots cost $70 on clearance and lasted me well over a year before one of the zippers got crappy. I don't think I've spent as much as $150 on a pair yet.
OP, just watch the good gear clearance sites, like whatever Newenough changed their name to. Or the FS section here or the bigger sites. Find a pair you like, and try them out.

I ride with a set of wise boots. Cost 160 and look good. Got them out at motomarket. I would recommend them highly. Ankle protection, heel protection, zip sides, and toe sliders. Good street boot for cheap. I have had a couple of ICON products and I have never had good luck with any of them. Seems to be more form over function (or quality for that matter)
What about the Teknic Chicane Street Boots?
Are they a mid-lenth traditional looking boot (with sizing that runs a wider width) that offers dedicated ankle and foot protection?
And would you be spending between $125-$150?
I thought about getting the lesser expensive ones but after breaking my foot jogging a couple years ago I realize how much you need your feet.
I'd go with the most protection possible and I wouldn't skimp just becasue you are a begginer. if you're planning on riding for a couple years then spending $100 bucks more is well worth it IMO for better protction in the long run.
When you say wider width, how wide?
Most all motorcycle boots are built in European lasts, which tend to be narrower in the forefoot and wider in the heel. In the larger sizes they seem to run D. I wear 12EE US and only found a few boots that were remotely wide enough. Tried all the boots that others said "run wide" and none fit.
I have read a few posts that label ICON as squid gear? Why would me using a ICON helmet label me as a squid?Because it appeals to stunters who thus want to look cool over anything else. A lot of squids want to look as stunter as possible so they get Icon - if anything.

I bought several brands of boots that supposedly "ran wide" used on eBay to try out. They were all unsatisfactory.
The only boots I've found that are available in Wide are Sidi Mega Ways, Sidi Mega Vertigo, and Daytona RoadStar GTX. They are $250-400.
Generally guys who need wide widths and don't want to spend for the motorcycle boots buy police duty boots, which are available in a wide range of prices for about $75 up. Cabelas, BassPro, and police duty equipment shops stock them.
I used to wear Danner Ft Lewis boots before I got the others and they would leak through the laces after riding in rain for 30 minutes or so.

Timberland Pro has a line of 'duty' boots too, btw.
What size?
I have a used pair of these-

Free. If they fit.
I just scored a brand new pair of Sidi Vertigo Airs (MSPR $300) off ebay for $185.00 shipped! Just get a good pair of boots so you dont need to upgrade later.
A.Stars tend to be wider then Sidi.......The Blades tend to be real snug on anyone's foot due to the design and a ton of leather and not a lot of flex fabric.
