If I were to get a NEW bike 100% for the track...

If I were to get a NEW bike 100% for the track...

What would you all suggest and why? Options being GSXR 600 or 750, or a R6.

Truth be told, the bike may eventually be used at the LRRS (if/when I can get it passed around the wife). With that in mind, I believe the 750 goes to a different class correct? If so, I think I prefer to stick to the 600s.

I am looking for real opinions here. Not "buy a used track bike" type stuff. Not doing anything because I like "shiny and new". More because I like to own my OWN problems and know the history of the machine. And then I can build it the way I like it.

So, which do you think you would go for and why?

GSXR600 would be a great class and tons of parts everywhere. I'd never suggest to anyone to build a brand new bike into a track machine unless you are rich or own your own sport.
Not sure what your experience is but a lighter bike (hawk/SV) might be a better learning bike.

750 would fit in Heavy weight and Unlimited classes while 600 fits those plus Middleweight.

if it were me I'd go with the R6 out of all of those. I'm not a fan of GSXRs but that's not based on anything really. Either would be a great track bike. so go pick whichever you like more

Re: If I were to get a NEW bike 100% for the track...

So far I have got 16 tracks days under me. Was riding an '05 R1. The bike is just too much at the track. I ride a BMW S1000RR on the street (but not crazy). I got the R1 for a great price, and I loved my '02 when I owned it years ago so I went with it. Been doing well with it at the track, but after the last year I realize that for Loudon it really is too much. NJ is great though! LOL!

I am looking for a comparison of the stock bikes out of the box with little tinkering right away. With the low interest rates (Suzuki is 0%), and the year end thing, I figured I would go for it. The wife gave me the go ahead.

R6. The faster guys seem to like the sharper handling of the r6, I'm told.

No interest in a twin? What about something like an 848 or 1199. Id have to check the rule book but I think the 848 will fall in the 600 class.

Yes. The 848 would fall into the class I believe, however parts cost, maintenance, initial costs associated with the bike (an 1199? Really?), etc., all make it a non-viable option. That, and I don't believe they are as competitive against the other bikes in the class.

It doesn't matter what mark is asking...if he says mint, the rest of us should interperate that as brandfuckingnew. It's gonna be showroom, only cleaner.

My only question, why would you want to finance a machine insurance won't likely cover under it's primary intended use?

Won't need to cover with insurance as the amount financed is under $15k. Not actually even financing 1/2 the total.

I've been through the financing a track bike argument on another forum so I'd rather not hash that through again. This bike, IF bought new, may at some point be on the street for short stints as I will be getting rid of my other sport bike next year as well. And as it would be done in VT (family owned house there), and I have a 100% clean record and no claims, my yearly full coverage on this bike is ~$250. (I checked already)

The Yamaha factory credit (GE Capital) only requires full insurance if you're financing over $10,000, and it's similar with most credit unions in RI anyways.

I just looked it up with NADA and KBB, Nada has retail around 10K and KBB is 8,400.
I'd be happy with $8,000 for it. It's the Red/Raven limited model and I bought it new about this time last year. I just checked, it only has 2,133 miles on it. There is not a single scratch on this bike that I know about. Pretty much stock except for Pazzo shortie levers and a dark smoke puig screen.
I still owe around $4,000 on it through Yamaha finance, if you're interested in the bike, we can work out those details. I have the funds to pay it off, but I'm not going to for a chance that someone will buy it. I can get you more details and some pictures if this is something you are interested in.

They may be a little more expensive but it seemed money wasn't a big deal to you. Anyway as far as being competitive, wasn't the track record set on an 1198? Anyway, to each his own. I wouldn't buy one either but I'm not in the market for anything nearly that new.

And there's the kicker, you're opening an unsecured credit line, hence why there isn't a requirement for insurance. It's a fancy credit card. Open a line secured against the motorcycle and I bet they'll require insurance, even in RI.

No one said you can't, but what are the odds of the insurance company paying out for wadding it up at the track, TD or Race? Given it's an unsecured credit line it doesn't matter though as he'll be required to make payments weather or not the bike exists.

I really appreciate the offer. But I will pass for now. With the year end deals going right now, it brings the new bikes damn near close to the same price. But I would bet that come the spring your bike will go quick.

BTW, with the whole insurance thing, I very well may insure it until I start racing. I need to check with my insurance company as far as what the cost will be. All my tys are stored and insured in VT at family property for 6+ months. My S1000RR only costs me $430/year with 100% full coverage. I am guessing this bike will be around $250 due to lesser displacement and the bike costs about 1/2.

Don't think a new R6 will go for close to $8K. Maybe high 9's? Love that anniv edition.

Grasshopper, you're wrong Yamaha offers 2 credit types, the line of credit with the fancy card that you are talking about, and an installment loan. The installment loan plan they offer only requires full coverage if more than$9,999.99 is financed. A trip to your local Yamaha dealer will prove this

I am not going to list the price until after I have had the chance to go and take a look at them. I think they may only have 2 left.
